If you have any really good loads for your 6.5 i would be happy to hear about it. I have norma cases , federal primers and imr 4350, re-22, re-19 and accurate 4350 on hand, let me know if its handy some time

Back in the old days, I used 3031 for several calibers, but have come to use Varget . I am still playing around . Just now trying for lighter recoil and better groups. It just sucks that now i am getting into a new phase in reloading, components are hard to get. Glad i got some before the election. Guy

Definetly Unique for handguns, and IMR 4350 for rifles haven't tried RL-15 yet but sounds promising

Leadhead,
I have used Rx 15 in 30-30 and 308 win. My results were good with this powder. In the 308, my longer range loads were excellent with heavier bullets.
I am not set in my ways, but I get better results with other powders that have been around for a while, like 3031 for my 30-30 for use in my Marlin 336 and IMR 4895 for 308 Win in my M1A.
For cast bullets, I am always open to new powders, Rx 15 is not that well suited for my cast bullet use.

sometimes a supplier will get a shipment in and it's gone just on those who left backorders ( many folks dont ) also like many i'm not fond of the hazmat fee ( seems like easy money to me i picked the wrong occupation lolz ) powder valley has the imr 4350 but not the hodgdon's atm ( i use alot of h414 which is purported to be a ball equivalent of 4350-ditto win 760) and while it's not the best in the .223 etc it's one of my powders that i use for alot of things ,back when accurate arms was the cheapest powder going i tried their 4350 as well, charge weights all vary but i've had decent luck with all of them ,i put alot of thought into it way back when ( before my first 8#er-that i somehow erroneously thought would take me forever to use lolz )there's better powder there's worse powder and alot will depend on the shooter ,a guy who shoots say only 308 and 223 will have diff needs than a guy who only shoots 458 win mag and 30-378 weatherby's ,barring semi auto's black powder will function about everything pistol and rifle ;)

One power IMR 4831. I can use it for my .243,.270WSM, 300 Win Mag. I could probably use it for my 22-250.

For handguns of all types, WW 231.
For rifles of all types, H4895.
In addition, I'd like something along the lines of 2400 or H110 for heavy handgun calibers and H4831 for heavy rifle loads.
Those four would seriously do everything I need done.
At least, until I start loading shotgun...

OMM, what is your opinion of the difference between brands of primers? I have Win. Federal and PMC and if I am not going after max loads is there any real worry about greatly varying pressures etc. Let me know what you think as I have just begun reloading and have not experimented much, sticking to pretty modest starting loads so far.

there is more to primers than just pressures...sometimes a different primer will give better or worse accuracy ...keep in mind that ballistic labs have tested primers over and over in all sorts of loads, everything else being equal the velocities and pressures were not using only different brands of standard primers ( ie; not switching between mag primers etc )i have to commend u on starting slow and safe ! sometimes it's the chevy vs. ford debate ,what works well in this rifle may not work well for u in ur rifle -even if our rifles and components are the same ,if one works up a safe load it is urged for safety reasons to reduce the powder charge and work up again if any component changes, with starting loads u have a lil more fudge factor ( usually but not always )personally i prefer cci and remington's with federal's coming in a close third( except for shotshells-love my 209a's !)) sadly in this day and age it often depends upon what is available,i have no experience with pmc's except in their factory ammo i have fired and there they all worked but one ,some guys swear by federal some by winchester ,if u have a lyman reloading manual u should read their primer chapter , if u dont try to borrow or buy one , it's well worth the time to read ,again they have these great well stocked ballistic labs( i'm so jealous) but even with starting loads changing primers can and do alter velocity as well as point of impact, some guns seem to shoot great no matter what is put in them and some well....if i'm working up a starting load and the recipe calls for standard primers i often start a grain or so below the listed starting loads( u have to recall that u only stated the brand not the size or strength )IMHO federals are a lil more sensitive than winchester's yet winchester's seem to be a lil( just a lil) hotter than the federal's, keep in mind that i am comparing only large rifle standards, my fav-cci's, run about in the middle ( hope that helped and not confuzzled! )

Wow, it took 28 posts for me to see what I use for my pistol reloads. W231 works for 9mm, 38/357, and 45ACP.
I use H335 or BLC(2) for .223.

Win. 748 for the rifles.
Unique would be the pistola dn shotgun powder in a bad situation forever.
I'd rather have others for P & S, but, I could do everything I need to eat and survive with the Unique, and could, if I had to, feed the 308 with it, just would be serious downloads.

Glad I'm not limited to one powder; might be in trouble!
Blue Dot for my 20g and 44Mag
Green Dot for my 12g and 45ACP (I like Universal too, though)
Varget for the 300 Savage
4831sc for the 270 (though I haven't loaded much 270 yet)

Some powders are indeed flexible. But, the full range of cartridges makes it an impossibility to cover them all, well, with any ONE powder. So, the end question comes to, what cartridges are you going to restrict yourself to so one powder can do the job?
My firearms are much to varied to be loaded even moderatly well with any one, or even three powders. Fortunately, we have a LOT of powders available so that isn't a real issue.

imr 4895 for rifle (308, 30-06) and for pistol (7mm tcu, 30-223, and 7mm-08). hard to say for pistol. for the past two years i have been playing around with aa#5 and titegroup for 45acp, 40 s&w, and 9mm.
