Do anyone have experience with  a 60 grainer in a 1&8 twist. Thats the twist of my new AR and having a hard time finding time to work up loads. So, I'm gonna cheat and ask for your experience.

God Bless,

Song Dog

Hey SongDog.I have data for it from Hornady.I have never used the 60 grain VMax.I have always used the 40 gr VMAX with my Weatherby with a 1 in 14 twist.
In my Savage model 12 which is now chambered for 223 Rem Ackley Improved, I have a one in 9 twist.I have fired heavy bullets up to the 75 gr Hornady AMAX.

With your 1 in 8 inch twist you can handle the heavier 80 gr bullets offered by Sierra and other manufacturers.
I can`t give you a good or bad on the 60 gr VMAX ,but if it performs as well as the 40 gr does for me. you`re gonna like em.

SongDog..These are max loads I am going to give you.I am sure you know to start low and work up looking for signs of pressure.I always say this when handing out any load data.I`m sure Melvin will help you with these checking the case head expansion  after firing. These loads were also developed for a bolt action rifle as Hornady only gives data for the AR-15`s in 68 and 75 gr bullets.

The better loads given for the 60 gr VMAX.

BL-(C)2 MAX LOAD-27.7 GRAINS
Remington brass,Remington 7 1/2 primers.
SAAMI trim length

VARGET(My Favorite in a 223 Rem)....24.9 grains MAX
Rem brass,Rem 7 1/2 primers, SAAMI trim length

Win 748.. MAX LOAD.. 25.5 GRAINS
Rem brass,REm 7 1/2 primers,SAAMI trim length.

I wish I could comment on the 60 gr VMAX but I`ve started shooting the 55 gr Nosler ballistic tips and I think I`ll stay with them in my AI.
Good luck on your load development..
Gene
