Hy all, I have a question.

When I use walnut in my tumbler it sure seems like a lot of work and a waste to keep rinsing them off with water unitll their clean.

Anyone have an easyer way they clean their brass?

Put a half of a dryer sheet in your walnut media. It will pick up the dust in the media and your cases will be shiny bright.

BTW. Dryer sheets were invented by married women. Bachelors never use them. The scent of a dryer sheet on a man's clothes tells other women, "This one's taken. Find your own."

I use Flitz Tumbler media additive in my walnut media, makes em bright and shinny in half the time normally.

Slingshot, I second that motion. I use flitz too. Great stuff. It's best to add it before any brass is put in and let the tumbler run for a few minutes. I've added it with brass in place and ended up with 223 case mouths plugged with flitz and walnut pieces. RD

+1 to what Rockydog said about adding it beforehand

I have 2 tumblers - 1 in the garage Lyman turbo its noisy as hell but works great on pistol cases.

1- "Thumblers Tumbler"  bought this back in the 80's and still working with the original engine this one I use for rifle brass and is in my loading room the noise is comforting (yea I know it sounds weird) compared to the Lyman.

My batch of walnut media was horrible when I first started using it, dust everywhere. An additive and dryer sheets took care of it though. Might try corn cob next to see what that's all about.

I have never used walnut...only corncob and never had a dust problem. But then I only run it when im gone.I just dump them in a sifter when Im done...shake them around a little and pick the cases out.Ive never noticed any lingering dust on the cases just a little film.I kinda roll them in a towel  to polish and deprime.I was thinking about getting walnut the next time I needed new but now I wonder about the dust...

Today at a pet store I found a big bag of White Proso millet bedding. Does this stuff have any use as tumbling media? I only ask because it was on clearance for $4.

AZPaul, Walnut will plug the primer holes too. Probably worse than corn cob as it's harder and really wedges in there. I put a "right sized" finishing nail through a 6'X6"X3/4" block of wood, sticking through about an inch. As each shell is placed in my reloading tray it gets pressed down over the nail first. Just part of the routine, RD

I bought some stuff off ebay that promises to make your brass real clean  after 1 to 2 hours in your tumbler, I'll let you know how it works.

2 thoughts:

Wife washed & dried my jacket this week using a dryer sheets.  I can still smell them every time I  put the coat on.  I can't say I care for that odor.

I use my outdoor Christmas lights timer on my tumbler to turn it off.  I also tumble when I'm away   from the house (and obviously, don't clean brass  during the Christmas season).

rockydog, that is an interesting little tool that you made.about a year ago i started using walnut in a midway buzz type case cleaner.i am less than pleased with using a "tumbler" for case cleaning.i used a 1000 watt commercial ultrasonic for years.the ultrasonic cleans the inside better but doesnt shiney the case up.shiney cases are a lot easier to find in the fall grass.  2571,wally world has a store brand dryer sheet that i find less obnoxious.look for the lavender scented ones.
