i do understand frustration from the bench, my friend.
i worked with an early production run of lazzeroni 7.82warbird brass back in 2001 that gave me fits. experience nearly drove me to get rid of the gun, all togther. especially when i had lazzeroni himself telling me, no, there's nothing wrong with my brass. anyway, if you have followed my warbird stories at all, you know how i feel about that cartridge. me entertaining thoughts of getting rid of it saying alot about how disappointed i was in what i was seeing.
so yeah, i get frustration. truth be told, if something were giving me problems, i'd move in other directions, as well. unless, of course, change ment getting rid of my pet warbird. then, i shoot the crap brass while i have to (cursing, kicking and scratching every step of the way) and wait 2 years for lazzeroni to catch wind that there actually is a problem and address it. all's well now, but mercy, it was a long 2 years.
if it's any consolation, if federal primers are as impossible to find where you are as they are where i'm at, once you run out of your current stock, you won't have a choice but to use another brands. heard someone say military contracts are sucking up all the supply. no idea about the accuracy of this.
anyway, again, i do hope you get your problem solved to your satisfaction, bud.

Rocky Dog I think the problem may be with your Lee Auto Prime. I think this because I have had the same issue with it. When loading Federals particularly, you need to raise the primer until it just touches the bottom of the primer cavity. Then while holding slight pressure gently move the case until it centers on the primer.
The Lee Auto Prime shell holder has enough slop in it that the primer can hit one side or the other before going in. With most primers its not a problem but since Federals are slightly larger instead of going in they will tip.

72, I think you hit the nail on the head. I've only got a couple of hundred cases to go. I'll try to center them before squeezing too hard. RD

I had quite a bit of primer loading problems with federal primers and Lee Hand Primer. Large primers mostly. I was just learning. And things were not working like my friends Lee hand primer. I had to press excessively hard to seat. Getting to the point that to get them to be below flush I had to use the single stage press. I bought a new set of Lee Hand Primer. Comparing the new with the old noticed the inside of the hand lever component of the primer was severely scored. Reading the user info provided with the Lee set stated to lube the inside of this lever component with petroleum lube or equivalent. I did not do this. I have not had a problem seating a large primer since. But have had troubles with small pistol primers turning sideways or flipping over. Have been leaving the cover off to see when this happens. Large primers were Fed 210m's. Small pistol primers were WSP.

Winchester small rifle primer pockets are tight, they are hard to turn the trimmer into the bottom of the pocket. I hope this helps. It is so frustrating when you think you are doing every thing right and some variable that is
not in the normal equation is makings things difficult.
