I went down to local Mom and Pops to pickup a box of Low Recoil 12g sheels for Katie. The had just ordered powder, but haven't seen the last order come in.

I asked about powder and orders, mainly I asked about quantity, they can only order 60 pounds of powder max at a time, plus the HazMat fee. This has something to do with the interstate commerce laws, nothing to do with the BATF.

Plus I ordered some Blue Dot for me.

Fine powder, that Blue Dot! I was told by one of the places that 32 lbs. was the most they could ship to a home... in one package under one hazmat fee.

I live on the grounds of my farm which is a business. The local coop doesn't limit me on the amount of nitrate I can buy and that they will deliver. I will probably order 2 tons next year.

Back to the powder, shippers have different policies for residencial areas and to businesses. Image UPS leaving a case of 8 pounders on your front step when you are not home. I know that they want signatures, but sometimes they leave things any way.

I think powders have to go by carriers like UPS. I read somewhere that they have a 75 pound limit on haz material. Their regular limit is 150 pounds. Guy

Tha carrier sets the limit, UPS has one set of limit and FedEx Ground has another, but similar set.

I buy acids and other chemical from time to time, I can only buy a certain quanitity as set by the distributor and the carrier, in some cases by Homeland Security (or Insecurity).

I'm not so sure about the 60lb limit....at least here in NM. I've seen 3 boxes at my Las Cruces gun shop, with one being open. Judging by what was in one, the total order had to be close to or over 100 lbs. Even if not, the order can arrive over a period of days in seperate shipments.

I have only ever ordered an eight-pound jug of powder at a time.  They left it on the deck.  This was UPS.  Same with the 5,000 primers I ordered from Wideners.

My last brass&bullets order was shipped by FedEx - they required a signature!  No powder or primers - just inert components!  I had to make sure I was home the second day they came by.

It may have been the vendor (Graf's) who marked it as needing a signature.  Strange.

Powder shipping to dealer is different than shipping to a non FFL business or a residential area. I am not sure how the box stores do their powder and primer shipping.

There seem to be no consistance with carriers. My FedEx guy said 2 cases of 8 pounds is the limit for delivery to my business, which is 64 pounds. My local gun shop says they are limited by the carrier and the supplier.

I also received an order from  Graf's . It was a couple of 50 rnd boxes of 22lr and some .223 bullets. I had to sign for them the next day after the note was left on the door. I figured it was the loaded 22LR ammo.
