I tried to ship some primers to a friend today and neither FedX or UPS would accept them...because a. I haven't been formally trained to ship hazmat materials and b. I don't have an account with either...
WOW...JUST WOW!!!

I think it's interesting that assembled ammunition can be shipped via regular UPS, but separate primers or powder require special handling and hazmat. But it's not something you really want to complain about since the alternative might be hazmat on everything.

I know, I should give up while I'm ahead. I'm in Tennessee right now for Army training and I've been scoping out the local gun stores for deals. I noticed these green stickers on all the ammo and had to google it. Apparently all ammo sold must have these stickers on the boxes and there is a 10 cent tax.
Besides the obvious objections to such a system, it seems to me it would cost more than ten cents for the state to make, distribute and track the dang stickers.

maybe they magnetically coded ( or worse ...)and ten cents ...on a box ? isnt a case one box ( albeit with smaller ones inside )but actually i bet the state got a great deal on green stickers( from china no doubt ...) and all other merchandise wasnt selling canceling their proposed green tag sale so they stuck'em on what was selling ( ok ok i admit it it's late and my humor is lame lolz )

Primers are probably a NO NO because someone might dump them together without proper separation.

easiest answer ? primed brass is legit to ship ( no hazmat)crazy huh ?
If you mean an FFL licensed dealer, that is a no go as well, unless they a. have an account. b. have been formally trained in Hazmat shipping. c. Have a seperate insurance policy for shipping insurance (meaning damage that the shipped hazmat item may cause).

Only a certain ammount of ammo can be shipped that way and after that it get's to hazmat. If you want to ship primer's legally, make friends with a truck driver. He can get them for himself and carry them in the cab of the truck. They are not freight then and legal. Just be sure he doesn't get paid for it.

Here in New Zealand we can ship primers with no problem
pack them up and put them on the courier BUT try and ship powder the last cost I herd was somthing like 25 dollars per canister and is shipped by rail

You live by Midway? You lucky dog! I would be broke if i lived near them. I live by a Cabelas but the prices aren`t that great and now that we have a store in our state we get dinged on sales tax if you order anything the store doesn`t have.

Have both Dick's and Cabelas within a reasonable distance, but they are far enough away to discourage random trips. (Otherwise, I'd be more broke than I am.)

The Cabela's in St. Louis actually has the best prices around on ammo. I buy almost all of my ammo there, but now getting ready to start reloading my own. They also have an incredible variety of ammo.
