If anyone here is an Iraq or A-stan Vet,this is a good organization that does a lot of good on your behalf as a veteran.Especially wounded brothers and in dealing with political issues that effect veterans of these wars.
It is free to join.I joined it after reading about it in Iraq.

He has been there one day and his unit has already diffused two "boomers". He commented about all the sand--lol, I told him just to think about it as a very large beach with out water anywhere nearby. wc

I hate those kinds of beaches. Nary a Bikini anywhere to be found. Nor anything much else to look at either. Your eyeballs just sort of feel like sombody is "sanding" them down everytime you blink.
He took an extra pair of sunglasses and a set of field glasses--just in case there was some "girl watching" that needed to be done, wc

His mother walked through and I told her it was just a movie someone made. She gets mighty upset about things like that. She wanted to see his family pics I have stored the day he left. She spent a while crying about it. Will post his wife's farwell letter if it is OK with her. We need to remember the tremendous sacrifice the soldiers are making and their spouses/children/loved ones back home in our prayers. Hope this thing is over soon. wc

Wow! That video is an eye opener. I never stepped foot in Iraq or Aghanistan but I was off of the coast of both countries many times. My job was to launch our aircraft on time to support our guys on the ground.
My squadron flies EA-6B Prowlers. We provide electronic counter measures. Basically the aircraft monitors and jams all radio frequencies including cell phones. With prowlers in the air the enemy can not communicate or set off IEDs.
I have 19 + years in now. I'm retiring next summer and my wife and I are going back to Upstate NY. I sure hope this war ends soon so our guys can come home.

Three nephews (Army) and one niece (Marine) have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. One is presently in Iraq with the 1st Cav, he is on his third deployment. One cousin (Army) has been there three or four times. Sons of friends are presently there on third or fourth deployments. Unfortunately, multiple deployments are very common. Proud of all of them.

M70Boss, what coast are you on? I retired out of Whidbey in 1994. My last cruise was with VA155 A-6E's. We lost a crew in Desert Storm. Tom Costen was the pilot, Charlie Turner the B/N, flying off the Ranger. They were shot down over Basra.

Bill

Hay Gents, just stumbled on this old thread and i wanted to say thanks for all the support, Im an active duty army explosive ordnance disposal technician that is looking at my 3rd deployment in july. my first to the big A-stan, im kinda anxious, heard it was fun! did Iraq twice and got tired of the $h!t smell all the time! again, thanks for the support guys!
Hey Brother, get used to the smell. I found it very similar in all my "Third World Vacations". Seriously doubt the big A will have any better odors. Be careful over there!
