Has anyone tried the new tin 22 ammo? CCI makes a TNT Green in 22 Magnum and Winchester also apparently has added a TRN (tin round nose) and THP to their line, though I couldn't find them on their website.

I wonder how these will perform and what the price difference will be.

I would also like to know, but what is the cost of these 22s? I only have one 22 Mag at the moment, but I am wondering if they are going to have them for the 17 HMR.

Jerry, I did find this review on CCI's 22 mag. Results look pretty promising. Is tin an inexpensive metal in raw form? If so I hope they start producing it in bulk to prepare us for any possible lead bans.

By the way I wasn't clear above, CCI has the 22 mag but Winchester's TRN and THP are 22LR, making them the first to release lead free 22LR. There are no lead free 17hmr options out there right now that I have found.

I would like to find some ceramic bullets like mentioned that the USAF uses for the range. These sound interesting. I just don't know how you would get the weight in ceramics to be enought for most rifles with out having some lead or DU involved.

Winchester's running with the idea.

http://www.winchester.com/products/newitems/whatsnewcontent.aspx?productid=76

If they could make lead free 22LR and 223 that costs the same as regular ammo, they would surely make some $$$...

Great, let us know how it goes.

I recently purchased a GP100 6", it's easily my new favorite handgun. Going to the range tomorrow to try some full powder W296 loads. :shootfoot:

I was at the range Sunday  accompanied by my 9 yr old grandson  who was shooting my scoped Remington Nylon 11 22 bolt action at the clay targets on the 100 yard berm which he was hitting.I was using my SS Ruger 4 5/8" barreled Single Six with the 22 mag cylinder and the CCI Green ammo. I was also shooting from the bench at 100 yards at some clays laid on the side of the berm with the 22 green cci ammo.My impression is it's accurate and I need to buy some more. My grandson shot the 22 mag loads & then I explained all about the ruger gp 100 357 mag revolver. He fired some Federal match wadcutters & Winchester semijacketed 125gr +p 38special ammo succesfully at the targets and the berm.I also fired some of my handloaded 357 pocket rocket ammo very accurate same as my S&W mod 19 6"  357.

Thanks for the report. I've been looking around for this stuff, no luck yet.

I also took my GP100 to the range this weekend, what a blast. Shot some full power 357 loads, 125gr jacketed and 21gr of W296, talk about a head turner on the line. Visible fireball in daylight. They grouped well though, full cylinder into 2.7" at 25 yards.

Have a good one.

I'll have to use it in the condor  zone which juts into San Bernardino County their alleged range covers a lot of california . Dumb birds eat pop tops and anything that's loose, more are killed by high voltage than lead but none of the "experts " on the fish & game commission have demanded removing the high tension towers where they get turned into crispy critters.
