I'm considering buying a conversion unit for my AR. Anybodies experiences, good or bad would be appreciated. I plan on shooting Aquila's 60gr. sniper load which is correct for my 1 in 9 twist. Then the only things working against me would be the freebore and slightly oversize bore diameter. Intended use is for offhand tactical practice at 50 yds.

I have shoot the 22LR conversion kit in a M16 as well as an AR15. :thumbs1:

It isn't the same as shooting the rifle with 223/5.56, and it gets just as dirty if not dirtier than ammo designed for the rifle. Acuracy varies from adapter kit to adapter kit and from rifle to rifle.

Thanks Jerry, that's what I suspected, but wasn't sure. I think I;ll just wait and get a dedicated upper or a complete rifle in .22lr.

Swamp,

Back a few years ago, the Ohio Army National Guard was using the adapter so people could qualify on these iffy indoor ranges that many armories have.

All I ever heard was complains about this method. Plus when you switch back to 5.56 NATO, many people get a sudden surprise.

go over to one some of the ar sites to read up on it. some love them, some don't. for me there is two way to go. get a dedicated upper or buy a cheap 22 rifle. i went with the cheap 22 rifle. less problems to deal with.

Go look at the .22 conversion kit made by Spike's tactical. Looks to be the same design as the CMMG and it uses the same magazines. The only benefit is that it is chrome or nickel plated and comes with some extra springs.
