Anyone finding any deals on 22 ammo that will work well in bolt and semi auto rifles?

I may be buying up a few bricks if I can find the right deal.

Jerry

Jerry, just trying to bump this for you. How many rounds do you need? If only a few thousand, the Federal 550 packs at Wally world are very good, $16 each. Some stores will only have the Winchester 333 pack for $10, it's also good, my current plinking ammo. All cycle my 597 perfectly with almost no duds.

Yea, the Federal ain't bad, I really thiunk the best consistency I ever saw over the decades has been that green-yellow boxed Remington cheapie, "Golden Bullet" stuff. Never had any trouble out of any in my 10/22 or dad's Browning Auto .22.

Stay away from "Wildcat" if you ever see any of that junk. It isn't worth throwing into a bonfire, or melting for scrap. "Eratic" and "misfiring" just don't do it justice.

It will work great for your 10/22. Only semi-auto I ever saw not function on high velocity bulk pack ammo was a Walther P22. That thing was so picky it only liked pricey CCI mini mag.

The Remington Golden Bullet 500 packs have been very good to me for general 22 work. Not uncommon to make 1 shot kills on prairie dogs out well past 100 yds.

For some excellent accuracy the Federal Champion  hollowpoints will keep the ram's ringing at 200 yds.

For  really tight accuracy, I like the Aquila Rifle match loads.

I agree with the previous post about Winchester's 550 bulk ammo. I recently purchased 2 bricks and both had so many dud's in them, I considered calling the company. I will avoid the wildcats whenever possible.

The Federals are great.

I am looking to stock up on my 22s, at least another 5,000 or maybe more.

Hard time may be coming and I can hunt for food on my property. So I need ammo for critters like squirrels and rabbits.

I have a 500-box of Winchester Xpert22 that I have opened, may have shot some of, but don't recall the results, so must have been average, but won't claim it specifically till I re-try it.

What are you looking to pay?
Our WallyWorld has the federal 550 packs for $19. Dragon, guess when it crosses I-77 it goes up a bit.

I know the big C has it bulk in dry-boxes, but they seem to be a bit proud of it.

It wasn't that long ago that the old green box remington was 40 for 50 cents. Now you can only find the Eley match stuff for $4-$5.

I shoot at the local gun club a long time ago and the CIL ammo was excellent and I think it was something like 30 cents a box, plus you got a neat little utility tray.

The last time I bought bricks of ammo it was $8.95 and I still have a couple of bricks. I know that I can get case of 5.000 rounds for around $250 of some decent stuff. Thats about a nickle a shot. But I would prefer Eley, but not only is the price thru the roof, but no has any in inventory.

Good friend of mine asked me to check out her .22 autoloader due to constant stovepiping, failures to eject, etc, etc.
Do not recall make and/or model.

She sent her ammo along too.

Inspected it, cleaned it, oiled it, took it out, and it proceeded to behave exactly as she described, on her box of Ely target ammo.

Loaded it up with an assortment of everything I have, from the Remingtons, Feds., X-perts (I'll bet that's why I opened that one), right up to CCI Mini Mags.

It devoured everything without a hiccup, normal to high-power .22 rimfire.
Give it the weak Ely target ammo, and it would not cycle properly.
Cleaned it for her again, and returned it, with advice to buy good regular cheapo ammo instead of wasting money on "premium target" ammo in a self-shucker.

I shoot Eley in my bolt guns where there is no semiauto action.

What I am looking for is accuracy and Eley has delievered that in the past.

Was that a Jennings 22??

For hunting, i buy what works for me, even if the ammo cost more.

My favorite 22lr ammo for hunting with my handguns, is Remington Yellow Jackets. In my rifles, i like Remington Vipers. They have a "really good" bullet design that does a great job on small game. Both work really well in the winter too, when it gets cold out, even if it's below zero.

I have shot literally hundreds of rabbits and grouse with these rounds.

DM,

We seldomly see below zero, unless your talking Celsius, in my area.

I have shot Rem Viper ammo in my 10/22 and my bolt guns.

Right now it is finding some place that ammo in stock. I like to buy a lot, because then I know how it all will shoot.

I was talking F, and some 22 ammo doesn't do well in really cold weather, so i was pointing out that the Vipers/Yellow Jackets do...  Anyway, hope you find what you want...

I bought 10 boxes of Vipers from Gander Mountain some months back, they seem to always have it...

I looked at the Gander Mountain website and found the ammo specs, yes it resists cooler climates. So far the best thing is that it is in stock. I can't find a price break with them, because these work out to be 10 cents a round.

Since the local Wally's stopped selling Winchester Dynapoint, which I absolutely loved, I have found my favorite .22LR is CCI Minimags and Standard.  I have reduced my shooting since the failed election so I don't run out too soon - Wally's has NO .22LR every time I go there.  I still have a couple 550 boxes of Federal and Winchester Xperts - those are okay for plinking.

I stopped shooting my semiauto .22s much, instead using my bolties - I go slower and take my time.  Now I go through 100 rounds in a morning instead of 500!

I'll soon have to 'bite the bullet' and order it online - IF I can find what I want.
