We hear a lot about good 22LR ammo, but how about stuff you have tried and absolutely didn't like? Please include which rifle/pistol you tried it in as some might suck for your gun but excel in others.
My biggest one so far is the Federal Spitfire, used in my Rem 597. It's was very loud and snappy, and accuracy sucked big-time. It did not feed properly in the 597 magazine and when it did get up to the feed lips it often jammed trying to chamber. I ended up throwing away half a box.
Also, I got a very bad batch of Remington golden bullets last year. One dud every twenty rounds. Pulling rounds apart showed that it was a problem with uneven priming of the cases. I guess this was a one-time thing as many others love the golden bullets.

I like it all if it goes bang. The most suprising stuff I have tried lately is an old lot of CCI Blazer. Out of my Kimber 82G with a 20 power scope it shoots better than most of the match grade stuff I have shot in it.

The WORST rimfire rounds for me are .....
1) Remington Golden Turds
2) Winchester Mildcats
3) Armscor (lack of) Precision
All these showed very poor consistency, and extremely large 'patterns'. I'll not buy anymore unless I am truly desperate.

I don't like the Armscorp ammo. It doesn't cycle properly in my 10/22 and I can't hit squat with it.

Winchester Wildcat.
Not worth the effort of sticking it in a magazine (or a cylinder), not in a Ruger Standard Auto pistol (pre-Mark I vintage), and not in a Ruger 10/22.
I truly think if I ever stuck any in dad's Browning .22 auto rifle, it wouldn't get any better (and couldn't get much worse).

For about 20 plus years I've been buying bricks of American Eagle at about $8.88 a brick until last year and it doubled but both of my 10/22s like it real well, what they don't like is a lead bullet, just wish I had bought more a couple of years ago. Half

Quality seems to vary over time. One Christmas my BIL (a Liberal who I corrupted into a gun-owner!) got me a seasonal tin of Remington - they shot very well indeed! Next Christmas I bought the same tin of .22LR at Wally's - they shot lousy!
Federal varies too - they function well in my semiautos, with their more pointed plated bullet compared to others, but group size usually isn't to my expectations even in bolt rifles.
Federal Target ammo has let me down too. Real bummer considering it's higher cost!
Winny WIldcats have never done well for me. But, their Dynapoint bulk pack is very tight shooting, and the Experts do well in my bolt rifles.

to me any 22lr ammo is good 22lr ammo. if it don't shoot good in one of my guns i change it to one that it does. got an old remington 22 auto rifle that will eat shorts, longs and lr. think it was made in the 1950's. you can even load it up with mix sizes and it will crank them out.

This htread sure goes to prove that each .22 firearm is a law unto itself! My 10/22, for example, hates the Rem bulk pack "Golden bullet" ammo, and loves the Armscor HPs! The Rem stuff also has had the most dud rounds of anything I've ever shot. Given the "ammo shortage," I've still picked up a few 525 round boxes of the Rem ammo, and it works OK in the Henry lever actions - but still some duds. Everything else seems to work just fine for me - Fed bulk packs, Win bulk packs, etc.

To my recollection, I've never had a failure to fire a .22RF..
Even Winchester Wildcats ran fine..
Shot a lot of CCI Mini-Mags, Winchester Super X, Wildcats, different kinds of Remington, Aguila, and a bunch more I can't even remember..
With the exception of the Aguila, almost all were "old stock", loaded before the "shortages"..
Used Win 1890, 10/22, Marlin autos, Savage autos, Mossberg autos, Single six, Hi-Standard double nine, and more...
I wonder if, in the big rush to catch up, the factories let their quality control slip??

Don't know about recent quality controll, haven't bought any .22lr in a couple years. Sure know the Wildcat I had should have been from "the good old days", long before the current "rush", and it was definitely junk.
May have just been a bad lot, but, bad enough that I don't want another lot. ;)

Winchester wildcats did not shoot as well as several others in my new little Savage. They didn't shoot well in my son's 10/22...and i have about 400 more of them....close range in our 22 hand guns...... Have a good 'un, Guy

Other than that one box my BIL gave me, I have NEVER had good performance from Remingtion rimfires. A lot of no-fires, and impact on target is strung vertically due to variations in powder loading - sometimes getting near-squibs! My Browning Buckmark chokes on them. They work better in my old fifties Wolverine, but it has a very 'soft' action and works with lighter loads.

Every 22 LR I have put thru my Mossberg M46 worked and well. In my 10-22 is a different stories but haven't had many misfires with that rifle.

Ray,
Is it the copper wash or just that brand or style?
