does any body still shoot the 22 short and/or the 22 long.  i got several guns that can shoot them.  but i don't find 22 short and/or 22 long in stores these days.  it looks like the 22lr has took over.  found a box of remington 22 short last week.   don't know how old the ammo is.  think i will run some chronograph tests with it to see what it will do against the 22lr.  if i can find some 22 longs i will throw them into the test.

I still shoot some shorts, as they are quieter than LR's on my trap line. I see them in gunshops, but they cost more than cheapo LR's.

Haven't seen short's or longs in a lot of years. But I do have most of a brick od shorts. I use them to educate feral cats, skunks and other vermin that bother my chickens.

I still have some .22Short "Hi-velocity" loads - they do have a good pop, but not as loud as .22LR.  With the light bullet, their accuracy will not be as good as .22LR in most .22 rifles, due to the rifling.

.22Long is pretty much dead - it's merely a .22Short bullet in the .22LR case.  I did find a couple at the range Saturday - sitting on the bench.  So old they are brown, and had firing pin dents but did not fire.  I will put them in my cartridge collection.

I use shorts while working a trapline, or hunting predators (or crows) with the .22 mag or .223 to deliver a "coup de grace" shot without damaging the pelt. Bought a box of 50 several years ago and still have most of that box in the ammo cabinet.
...for the record, I don't think I have ever seen a .22 long, either as a single round or on the shelf in a gun store.

Yep, instead of .22 Shorts, I like the Aguila Colibri for dispatching smaller yard varmints and doing ball-park sight-in without having to go to the range.

BUT......  they will NOT cleanly kill a possum, even in a point-blank head shot!  I put the muzzle of my Stevens singleshot rifle right tween his beady little eyes - "POP!"  He ran off shaking his little noggin - Exedrine Headache for sure!  Found the critter dead later under my house.......

Another tip - DO NOT ever cut a possum in two inside the house - God, they stink.....  but the sharpened Katana DID kill him.......

I have a bolt gun that was designed for shorts, as well as all of my bolt 22 LR guns can shoot them.

I find them at the box stores, maybe 10 boxes are in stock. The local gun store gets me a brick every year. They are quiet, and still effective a close range. Plus I have Rufus to start training to be a round guns.

I know they still make Longs, but I don't remember where I saw them last. Midway has CCI 22 Longs listed, but with many things they are back ordered.
