It's a 22" bbl, tube fed, micro-groove bolt .22 rifle. Feels good on my shoulder. Meets all my requirements to train the grandkids with. BUT, I have no knowledge of the accuracy, reliability or ammo preference at all. If anybody knows anything, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Lon...

I just received my new Marlin 981T rifle, and so I took it to the range with Remington Golden HV, Remington Yellow Jackets, Aquila SSS, Remington 22 Short HV, and Peters HV old standard.

I got it for a 50 yard head shot squirrel rifle.

I made three shot groups with each bullet, and got the following results:

Rem Golden Bullet HV and Peters hit the same place at .660" and .457" for both groups all within a 1" bullseye.

The Yellow Jackets came in at 1.078" about 2.720" high (if I hold the upper reticle duplex on the bullseye, it dead centers...

The .22 shorts  and Aquila SSS were a disappointment at around 2.7".

The good thing is the cheapo Remington and Peters bulk is the most accurate of those I tried...Haven't tried the Mini-mags yet, but plan to...The Maxi-Mags I shoot in my other Marlin all touch each other at 100 yards, and are the best of all of those I tested with it.

All in all, I am pretty happy with the .5" average group in dead center.  I don't think the squirrels will know it was cheap ammo or that it wasn't an expensive custom rifle.
