There was a lot of hoopla about this gun, and it appeared in the Ruger catalog for some time, advertising an all steel, investment cast receiver, etc. Then, as is so typical with Ruger, nothing. Does anyone know the scoop??  Bill T.

Unfortunately, I never found one to purchase, did end up getting the 77/22 Magnum though....think it was for the good.  Should have bought two, wow....the prices have gone crazy on them!

Bill,I think I remember seeing one at a gunshow.I never paid it much mind.Good idea on Ruger`s part.Too bad it didn`t take off. With the pricey 22mag ammo I can understand why though.

I have seen the Ruger 10-22 Mag but Ruger has now discontinued it . The Ruger 10-17 was advertised, but never made it to the market. You can still find a 10-22 mag on the used gun market. Ruger claims they had problems with the magnum feeding so took it off the market.

Your kidding.

I thought everyone had one except me. I see custom bull barrels and stocks for them all over the place.

And here I was feeling bad about not getting one...that they were no longer making them...only to see they never really made alot anyway and those they made had problems?

Seems to me they did that promo with the ranch rifle in .308 cal about 15 or 20 years ago. Had it in the catalog but never came out with it.

Hey sdb777 I've got the 77/22 mag in black synthetic and been looking at a .17 hmr replacement bull barrel but can't find a replacement stock not costing an arm and a leg. Cripes they want almost what a new Ruger .17 would cost new.

You ever look into it?

Ruger does that with a lot of their guns. I've never seen a company advertise more for guns they don't make, won't make, and or took off the market. They were advertising the Gold Label Side X Side 2 full years before they had them in production. The "XGI" was the .308 Mini 14 they never made. I remember the advertising blitz for the 10/22 Magnum, but again, no gun to go along with it. They need to get the bugs out of their guns before they start advertising them.  Bill T.

Beretta did that with their .32 ACP Tomcat. The concealed handgun market was growing like crazy, and thier marketing department obviously had more clout than the engineering department. It was advertised for about a ytear before it was available, and the first ones out were pretty much a POS. I know several people that couldn't wait to buy them, but when they got them, they had every problem imaginable with an auto-pistol. I understand they are ok now, but the damage has been doen. What could have been a big seller is now something you see only occasionally...like the 10/22 Magnum!

:troll:Well i got one and now i know there not making any more i think i will but in the vault and keep it there , grand son might need it some day . It is a good shooter and as for pricey ammo its no different that 17 HMRS and at 200 yds you have to get the gun to where you like it and know how it drops and youve got it made . It  is also good on the coyote out to 150  i got one on the third shot  it makes for good rapid shooting. That was about 500 rounds ago now and now it has started to jam up when it gets a little dirty , am going to try and get some metal polish and see if i cant keep the chamber on it buffed up better

I have used a dremel tool with a felt pad and a little polishing compound and it works great too get them buffed  out after they are cleaned up. A friend of mine has one and it shoots great, I Really like it when he brings it over for me to play with.  I have been looking for one for me but haven't ben able to find one yet.

Your welcome we found if you polish the action and the bolt up in either the 10/22 or the magnum version the cycle better, fewer misfeeds and, you can go longer between cleanings.

I managed to get my hands on a 10-22wmr when they came out....I'd almost given up on Ruger bringing them to market, so I bought a 96-22 first.

It's my understanding that they had problems with the ejector on quite a few of the 10-22wmr's.  I haven't had the trouble yet with mine, but if it does give any trouble, there is a replacement ejector on the market.

I sure like the way it shoots....nice and tight groups.  However, I've got a Win '61 and CZ American, both WMR's that shoot even better.

It is sad that Ruger quit making 'em-especially after spending all that money beefing up the 22LR.  As a whole, the gun may not have been quite "market-ready", but so far, mine's doing fine.  I keep it at the back door for "kitty and 'yote patrol".

If you want one, you'll have to find it used....

My understanding was Ruger discontinued the 10/22 mag for two reasons, 1st the guns where too expensive and weren't selling well and 2nd the ones they did sell were being converted to 17hmr and Ruger was afraid of the liability! just what I heard!
