The Ruger 10/22 is mine too. When i received my new 10/22 rifle i took it aprt and deburred the bolt and receiver. The bolt had sharp corners and there was burrs on the tapped scoped holes that were exposed inside the receiver. Once it was cleaned up I assembled it with moly. Its been an awesome shooter since it was new.
There is a craze going on right now tricking these babies out with heavy bull barrels, scopes and trigger work too with accuracy being the key the guys are having a blast with these fun shooters. There is a lot of stuff for these at http://www.midwayusa.com
There is one more 22lr that gets me cranked up its the old shooting gallery pump thats one of my favorites my grandfather had one and i always wanted to get one like his they were really neat too.
I have a brand new marlin bolt action 22WMR scoped that i have had for many years like since the 70's. I can't hunt with it in my home state because of the distance it can shoot but i still keep it for up north. I haven't had it out in over 25+ years but the last time the misses shot it she put 10rds in the x ring at 100yds. I always wanted a 10/22 in 22WMR someday i'll get one and maybe an auto pistol too.

This may sound kinda silly but my favorite .22 is a little bolt action Squibman. I bought it years ago for a hundred bucks and it had excessive headspace (ripped off I know). I used it for a while then got a little lever action and the little Squibman just gathered dust. I even thought of tossing it a couple of times. Anyway about a year ago I bought a stock refinishing kit and thought I'd try it out on the little Squibman and it came up a treat. It was only then that I realised how well it handled and how accurate it really was. It seems now every time I'm fox whistling it's the little Erma gathering dust now...

I have two favorites. My 10/22 that I've re finishedthe stock and free floated the barrel, added a Simmons 4X SKS scope (thanks Dad). I'll be getting a stock SS barrel from a guy at work. It hasd had about 50,000 round through it and nearly no hang up. My other favorite is my Stevens model 72. It was my cousins forst gun and mine too. We refer to it as my buffalo gun( but to be fair we call my sharps a squirrl gun). Both mine are damn goods shooters. Then there is my Hi-standard Double-Nine......

I grew up with a Remington Nylon 66 which is still in the family. My brother has it. I moved on to a Marlin/Glenfield bolt action which I lost in a house fire :(. Then I got a Marlin 60 which I could never really get to like. It shot fine, just didn't feel right to me. So I sold it and bought an old Mossberg Plinkster which was a great little plinker, too bad the new ones aren't the same.
Currently I have a Remington 597 and have had no problems at all with it out of the box.

| The Nylon 66 was ahead of it's time when it was introduced in the early 60's. Today synthetic stocks are very common. Back then they weren't. Walnut was the prefered material. I have old Guns & Ammo magazines from back in the early 60's that have Marlin ad's that say, "Every Marlin has a genuine Walnut stock". No longer. Today whatever is cheaper is what flies. Too bad I love Walnut! Bill T.

| As much as I like my 10/22, I really prefer my new to me Remington 512-X.

My 10/22 isn't accurate anymore. Maybe it needs a new barrel.
She's had some miles on her. My .22 pistols outshoot her now, but I just can't bring myself to put a new barrel on her. Too many memories.....
I think the gatling gun conversion kit I put on her one winter too it's toll....
Good times.

| I would have to say the Ruger 10/22 for me. I bought one to trick out right before I got married. I was saving up for parts at the time, but when the big day came I found myself instantly poor so I had to put the project off for a bit. My wife was sympathetic to my cause however (or just got tired of my whining) and I was finally able to complete it. I outfitted it with a Bell and Carlson fully adjustable stock, a blued heavy barrel, harris bipods, and a nice bushnell scope. I left the trigger factory as is, which is kind of heavy on purpose, so I would have to think about trigger control with every shot. It is a good shooter but not as good as I expected, and I was actually thinking of getting rid of it until I took my boys out to shoot it one day. I talked to them about the proper shooting principals before letting them at it, only half expecting them to actually listen. After setting the targets up (Clay pigeons) My youngest (6 yrs.) got down down behind her. I was never so proud (I guess you could call me a redneck for this!) but I heard him reciting "slowly squeeze to the rear" just before the little .22 cracked out and shattered a clay down range. I kind of stood there misty after that shot. I don't know who was prouder me or him. Then I had to laugh as the little guy started getting cocky, and began to talk smack on my brother in law who was having a hell of time getting his blackpowder rifle on paper. I guess that one earned it's stay in the gun locker that day.

I got 6 - 2 Ruger 10-22's, one I have had for I don't know how long, semi retired it and bought a new one for tree rats. Got a new Mossberg Plinkster just to have another plinker around, action is clunky, it gets filthy FAST, but is VERY accurate and for under a hundred bucks....
3 Single shots - a Savage MKII Youth that I used to teach the kids with, a tiny Winchester 58 that has been in the family for nearly 80 years (still deadly - got to use it at least once a year, it's a tradition), and last, but probably my favorite of all 6, a Winchester 67A - nice long barrel on this one, tight shooter, and just fits me right. Another family heirloom. I can't count the number of tree rats, rabbits and other various vermin I have dispatched with this weapon.

Hi there APRock. I have the feeling you like 22's... So do I... For cheap thrills and good entertainment a 22lr can't be beat.
And your point of using the Savage MKII Youth for teaching kids is well taken. Kids love 22's. No recoil to speak of. Just the gun firing and the bullet hitting the target. (Or not) I've used my 94/22 and 77/22 for young kids to learn with. Both rifles are a little large, or long for some of the younger ones, but with an adults help they were able to aim and pull the trigger. And they loved it...
Welcome to the HandLoaders Bench. Hope ya enjoy it here. GR

| caz223, I just happen to have a nearly new standard barrel, sights included, that a friend took off his 10/22 so he could doll his up with bull bbl. etc. If you want it you can have it for $25.00 + shipping. Jeff. Last edited on 12 April 2006 11:41 PM by S.Shooter

Kimber M-82 (Gov't) Got it thru the CMP. Without a doubt too heavy for field work, but very nice. I really have not finished breaking it in with trash ammo, but the possibilities for benched one hole groups @ 50 meters with good stuff is there, even with the irons that came with it. So far, the best is around an inch (off the hood of my Ranger) with PMC.

| winchester m190... got it as a christmas present new in 1969 or 70... shot with the little cheapie 3/4" 4x scope 'till i got an old weaver k4.... shoots shorts great... holds like 22 of 'em.... probably had 30k rounds thru it... back then remington 22 shorts lead cost $$4.90 for a 500 brick... saved my pop botle change and went across the state line to arkansas so i could buy shells....in texas, the seller had to keep a record of all handgun cartridges and wouldn't sell to a minor... arkansas didn't seem to care....i have a colt 22 auto pistol in 5" bull that shoots great too.... shot metallic silhouette with both guns.....rifle is a little big for daughter (7 yrs), but i figure she'll grow into it...
