I would have to say in general the 10/22 just because its fun and shoots well enouph to shoot the chickens in the head across the yard.  When it come to a dead on accurate rifle though thats fun to shoot and absolutely great it would be the single shot bolt action 5.4 mm mauser that Hitler used to train the youth with.  Its built to be a match to the standard issue German mauser used by the troops (K98 IIRC) but chambers and shoots american .22s and since the bore is a bit small for it the chamber pressure is huge (will split brass fairly often and shoot some powder back through the bolt) which raises velocities through the roof.  I have never had it around a croni but I know it shoots totaly flat past 400 yards and as a kid I used to cut 1/8" or so twigs with it and cut them off out to 20 yards or so.

Fella's;

I like .22 rimfires.  They are the backbone of my gopher getter collection.  I don't know as I have a favorite though.  Or, to put it another way, my favorite seems to be the one I'm shooting at the time.  Sorta like cookies ya know, yer favorite is the one yer eatin'.

A real strong canidate for favorite looks to be the CZ 452 LHB I reported on yesterday.  I'm going to have to take a day off from gopher shootin' & do the work from the bench to determine the best ammo for it.  I have a feeling that when it gets fed what it wants, it's going to be scary.

I sold a Savage MKII LHB to get the CZ, and I'd suggest that to anybody on a budget, especially if they're a port sider.  That was a 75 yard gopher gun.  However, I do have two 100 yard gopher guns.  The elder is a very early Ruger 77/22 stainless.  It's presently wearing a Simmons Whitetail 4-12X A/O scope.  The other is a built by Tom in Carroll Iowa, Volquartsen conversion on a 10/22.  That's got a Weaver V16 FCH on it & is in a Hogue stock.  The barrel is a Volquartsen Tensionlite 16.5", a pain in the butt to clean but extremely accurate.

The 77/22 has the bolt on the wrong side, so it's a non-starter for fav.  The Vol's going to my daughter, so I can't too terribly attached to it either.  Got a new 10/22 Deluxe to break in & improve though so I can't declare the CZ a winner yet.  But damn, it's gonna be hard to beat!

That's really easy. My T/C Classic with Weaver Classic 2.5-7X. Shoots under MOA with the right ammo. It likes all the SK stuff but it likes SK Standard Plus most. This is the same as Wolf Match Target, just different box. For pliking it is Federal #510 Champion which is good for .6" at 50. Not bad for ammo that I get for $6.80 for 500 at Academy stores (I hear it has gone up to $8.something). I love my rifle with it's walnut stock and deep polished blue. It has finished 2nd in several Benchrest E mail matchs and 1 3rd place. This is against CZ and Rem 541's and such. Great little rifle.

I like .22's.  From the Black Apache Rem that I bought as a present for my wife, to the 10/22WMR.  The one I like the best is an old Win 61 .22WMR.  It's the most accurate 22 I've ever shot.  When I bought it used in 1971, the gun, soft case, original little Weaver scope, and 3 boxes of ammo cost me $65.00.

The gun would still grade from 90-95%, and it is still accurate, even tho' I don't have a scope on it anymore.  Took the gun with me to a range in TX, we were shooting other guns, but I wanted to crank off a couple out of the Win '61 when we were thru with the others.  I got it out, and one of my friends pointed out the 100 yard targets.  Told him I wanted to shoot 200, to see if I could still hit with it.  I fired two rounds at 200, hitting a 4" gong both times.  Yep, it's my favorite 22.  It was manufactured in '62, and it's still going strong.  I still like iron sights for hunting, I grew up using iron sights-and I'll stay with them until the eyes tell me it's time for a change.

By the way, the wife bought me a dress as a present, but I never got to wear it-and she still claims the Black Apache is hers.

I've got a 10/22 with a dot sight thats great rabbit gun.  There isn't much squril hunting here in  the desert unless you count the ground type.  Haven't been hungry enough to eat  one yet. I  have a Rossi pump that  is a lot of fun too.  I get the most satisfation hunting with a little Rem Mod 6 single shot that my Great Grandfather gave to my Great grandmother on thier first wedding aniversary in 1906.  It still shoots great.  Five generations of kids took thier first shot on this little rifle and we are still counting.  It's taken more game for the pot than I can even imagine up to whitetails.  The deer were shot many moons ago of course.

Wow, this topic was started before I was a member of this forum!  Cool!

My favorite, as of right now has to be a Remington 541T-HB.  Hunting or even BR50 and 50/50 matches are very easily accomplished.

Hunting she wears a 6X fixed Weaver, and there is always squirrels falling from nearby trees with some GreenTag CCI ammo...if they are within 75-ish yards or so.

BR50 and 50/50 competitions she gives up the little scope and gets one of the few NightForce scopes I'd ever spend money on-the 12-42X56mm NSX model(yeah, I know!  the scope is worth 3 times what the rifles worth...).  I've never come in in last place with any shoots with her.

Guess the next .22RF in line would be a Marlin 60 with a can(yes, it's legal).  It's quiet and makes the neighborhood cats take the long way home:wink:

I love 22 rimfires a lot! At present I own at least 25 of them. Included are: Remington 541S, 541T(2), 581(2), 504, BRNO #3, Winchester 68, CZ452 American, Sako Finnfire, Mossberg 151K, 152K, 44US, 351K(a), 340B(a), 146(b)x3, 640KD, Marlin 782, etc. etc. My favorites, Hands down, are the 541's. These are all deadly accurate, and have the local 100 meter rimfire benchrest guys spooked. The Finnfire and the BRNO are also very accurate and several of those Mossbergs are great fun, cause they are a lot more accurate than most give them credit for, so an informal competition often raises a few eyebrows.:thumbs: Regards, Eagleye.

My favorite is a Lakefield.  As in Lakefield of Canada.  Makers of some of the finest Biathalon rifles in the world.

I've won several NRA Silhouette matches with it against many of the big names already mentioned in this thread.

Only paid $98.00 NIB and stuck a $525.00 Simmons Target/Silhouette 24X scope on it.

Savage bought them out some years back.  Same rifle, new name.

Wonder if they still shoot as well.

I have three favorites being a Marlin 39A, Browning A-Bolt .22 Mag & Remington 541-S.  When it comes to squirrel hunting where head shots dominate, then the 541-S is what I'm carrying!  For the small predators like called in Fox and Bobcat than the Browning loaded with some RWS .22 Mags (2070 FPS) is what I'm taking down range.

my favorite .22 rimfire is my 1022 custom..... i got the barrel and thumbhole stock set from midway the first or second year they had em......  it's a blue fluted heavy barrel and a laminated pepper thumbhole stock......   volquartsen customs had their taget hammers in the bargain bin a couple of summers ago so i bought one of them and took a 30 mile trip to carroll ia. to have in installed.....   glad i made the trip because the tech who put it together said he didn't like the way it felt yet so he worked on it till he liked it.....    got a target hammer and a volquartsen trigger job for the price of the bargain bin hammer...   I LIKE IT!!    last summer i sent the bolt to randy at CPC and he reworked the bolt..... volquartsen's also put in a buffer and an extractor..... i put on sling swivels and got a harris bipod for it.... it still wears the simmons 4by 32 scope an old friend gave me when i needed a scope because it works good for me and it was a gift when i needed it......  the thing will shoot one hole groups  at 50 that i can civer with my finger tip...   if i do my part......   1022 customs are fun!!

I am new to this forum but I feel so right at home.  My favorite Rimfire is the one I just aquired from a friend.  It is a Mossberg & Sons Palomino model 402.  It is in Mint condition, looks like it was just taken from the box, and it shoots everything flawlessly.  Not a bad deal for helping someone out and this is what I got in return.  Around here I use it for chucks,  and it has proven to be a very valuable tool.  I will get some pics up here of it when I can figure out how to do that.
