All my 22 rifles and pistols shoot the CCI Mini-mag the best and the Remington HP next. If i had to pick one it would be the Mini-mag HP.

Remington HP or Remington Thunderbolt solids. Out of the major brands, the only one that my guns won't shoot is Federal Lightnings. Those things spray all over the place. I don't use any of the "premium" stuff, don't need it, and I don't think it would be any better than the Remington anyways.

My favorite is CCI Green Tag Match Ammo. But what I shoot the most is W-W Super-X, Federal Hi-Speed, (550 round carton, plated bullets from Wal-Mart), and Remington Hi-Speed, (Golden Bullets). Most all of my rimfires shoot this ammo well. I like the CCI Green Tag for serious target work with my Browning A-Bolt .22, or my Medalist. billt

I buy what ever is on sale, I have a Mossberg sl that will not shoot anything really well and a Winchester 67 that will shoot just about anything as close as I can hold it, it even shoots the Aguila SSS 60gr bullets in a nice tight group, just 4" to the right of any 40gr bullet at 50 yds.

CCI mini-mag HPs have always worked well for me on squirrels and rabbits. I also like the Remington Subsonic HP and Remington HP.

Federal HP by the 550 box. Federal Lightnings if I can get them. CCI's suck and Remington are a joke.
However: I never had any luck with Remington or CCI. I just read a book "The Book of the 22" and the author pointed out that all brands usually worked well, but changing from one brand to another requires a good barrel cleaning, ESPECIALLY changing from lead to jacketed or vice versa. He stated that several boxes of the new ammo were usually required to settle the groups, sometimes even after cleaning the barrel. He believed that the barrel "seasoned" or "broke in" to the new loads.
I got to thinking about that. I had always used Lightnings, and CCI's and Remington are both plated. I never shot a whole box of either. It was one magazine full...group sucked....no more of that ammo.
It may well be worth a try. I plan to do just that this summer. I have never been one to clean a 22's bore. I'll clean the action and let it go. Seem like the more you know, the more there is to know.
Anyone else noted this phenomenom?

I`ve seen some of the 22lr match ammo in Midways catalog..That stuff is expensive...
I`ll stick with the CCI mini mags. They are expensive enough..

Mickey Rat, when I've changed brands or type of ammo in my 22s it usually takes only a few rounds to get them in a groove. The first few rounds might be going haywire, but then they settle right down and group nicely. The biggest problem I've had is when changing from Mini-mags to Subsonics, as the Subs hit 1" low and 1" right of the Minis. Just have to remember to change the scope setting.

Lapua Midas.$25 per 50.But it drills tiny little holes in comp so is worth the money.
For plinking mine likes any brand.

I am a bit of a 22 Rimfire fancier, and have several rifles so chambered. Several years ago, I chanced upon one lot of unplated PMC Zapper that shot very, very well in all the rifles I had. I went on a search and managed to round up about a case and a half of it. I still have about 3 bricks. It has won matches for me, and will shoot well in practically any 22 I have tried it in. I have 2-541 Remingtons, an "S" and a "T" sporter. Both have match chambers and will shoot quality ammo that they like into nice tiny groups. The T will shoot the Zapper into less than ΒΌ" at 50 meters, the S will shoot about the same. CCI green Tag will open these groups by 50%, but Lapua Match will shoot about the same as the Zapper. I have 3-146b Mossbergs, which are not match rifles, but are quite accurate. They shoot Winchester Dynapoints well [for plinking] and Federal Gold Medal Match works about as good as anything in them. My 581 prefers T22 [odd] for inexpensive ammo, and will shoot the Zapper or Green Tag into very decent groups. My old 68 Winchester is a cosmopolitan rifle, that shoots anything decently. I have noted that the accurate rifles take anywhere from 10-20 rounds to settle in to a new ammo, but then will do just fine, whether plated or not. I am looking seriously at a new 504 Remington. It will be interesting to see if it also will shoot that old lot of PMC ammo well. If I was to pick one inexpensive ammo for plinking in any of my rifles, I would have to say Dynapoint. Regards, Eagleye.

Eagleye, they sound like sweet match rifles. I didn't have much luck with the plated zapper in my Anschultz, the thing has expensive tastes in comp ammo. But it will shoot T22 okay.
I find working with 22LR to be good for all my other shooting technique,as well as being damn good fun.
Have a good one,
Macca

Macca; How's things going "down under"? Strange that you mention the plated Zapper ammo. Like yourself, I have not found it to be particularly accurate in any of my guns. I was a bit peeved when I found that PMC had started plating their Zapper ammo, since the unplated stuff shot quite well even in other lot numbers. There will always be some ammo that a 22 likes, the trick is to find it, and then scoop up a bunch of that lot!!! The T22 is "iffy" in my rifles, with most lots only shooting Fair, but that 581, for some reason, likes it in almost any lot #...go figure! Just like a pretty woman, fickle at times. Talk to you later, have a great one, Eagleye.

I've always been partial to CCI MiniMags, or Winchester Dynapoints. The absolute worst is Remington Goldens. I average 3 misfires per box of 50. They're the only ones I've ever had any problems with, and they are very consistent! Always 2-4 misfires/box! I've picked up the 22 Acu-Rzr from Paco on http://www.levergun.com, and it works real well. My 10-22 with ramline bull barrel puts EVERYTHING in the same hole! Needless to say, this one's a keeper!

Fella's;
I find that no one type of ammo works in all .22's. I have two that absolutely love Winchester PowerPoints for hunting. That stuff very nearly gives match performance in these guns. Other guns are just so-so with it.
Consequently, I have a large & varied amount of .22 rimfire stuff in my ammo locker. Any new .22 I get, gets a bench workout for ammo testing. It really pisses me off when I find that the gun likes something I can't find anymore though!

Right on CB. Every rifle is different in what it likes. My 10/22 likes Rem. Golden Bullets. My buddy's 10/22 hates them. I get missfires with Federals, he gets them with Rem. Golden's. When you find somthing that works, stick with it. ....JMO.
