I'm about to give up on Remington rimfire ammunition. A while back, my wife's Ruger Mark II Target was getting about 10% squibs (actually, duds) with bulk-packed Yellowjackets. Today, I got 2 out of 160 rounds I fired of the same ammo, individually boxed (boxes of 40), with my Sig Mosquito.

I wrote to Remington about the former trouble and sent them pictures of the firing pin impressions on a number of duds that didn't fire in the Ruger. They sent me a coupon for a free box. That was nice, but what I actually wanted them to do is look into the problem and fix it.

Either their priming compound is not sensitive enough, it's not being distributed evenly around the rim, or some rounds are making it through the assembly line without getting any priming compound at all. Don't know which it is.

Anyone else having trouble with Remington .22LR "Yellowjackets"?

... Forgot to mention in the above re: Remington Yellowjackets that Remington asked me to send them some examples of the duds, which I did. Never heard back from them as to what the problem was.

i wont buy remington rimfire ammo anymore at all. I have had the problem you are describing with all of their ammo. And also i have had heads blow completley off the case jamming the case in the chamber and burning me with powder and i had dissasemble the guns to get all of the little pieces of brass out so i would work properly again. Remignton would not do anything for me really but say sorry. And with the other problems i had previously with their guns and ammo i said so long to their products.

Just picked up a 525 round bulk pack of CCI Blazer .22LR, which was my wife's Mark II's favorite back in the day. I'm not buying Remington rimfire ammo anymore, either. I have several .22's, two of them H&R revolvers that don't care what I put in them - they fire them all, but no more Remingtons.

Dud's don't make much difference on the range, but I'd be just a bit annoyed if I was up hunitng elk someplace and went to take a pot shot at a forest grouse for camp meat, just to have the gun go "click!". Of course, those grouse are stupid enough to let you get pretty close - I once shot one off a deadfall log at about 10 feet with my wrist rocket.

Slim,

Your a better man than I am if you go elk hunting with a 22.

I have 3 22 rifles, an old Mossberg bolt gun, a Marlin bolt gun from the 70s(I think) and a new 10/22T. This also along with a Ruger Single Six, 22 with a 9 1/2 inch barrel.

I have never had any problems with Remington ammo. Plus I am still shooting some Thunderbolts that I bought back in 1989, I got such a deal on buying a couple of cases of bricks. I am currently shooting the subsonics in my quest for ground hogs.

I hunt elk with a .30-'06. I pack a .22 pistol (or sometimes, a wrist rocket) for grouse. No sense touching off an '06 to kill a chicken.

Friend of mine used to hunt (poach, actually) deer at night with a .22 rifle and a spotlight when he was a kid back in Arkansas, or so he tells me.

Slim,

On two occasions, a long time ago I took deer with a 22Lr, both being doe. This was close range and the ammo was some CIL stuff that I go thru my gun club.

These days,I openly carry a 586 loaded with hollow points when I am hunting these days, it is not for finishing shots, it for the crazies that shoot at hunters. One Shot, One Kill

I don't have grouse around here and the Turkeys are all hiding during deer season.

Slim how close are you to the cci factory in idaho? I've heard you can go over to the factory and get their factory seconds and other rimfire ammo cheap if you buy in bulk so they dont have to package it. Might be worth looking into.

I'm in Boise, they're in Lewiston. That translates into at least a 6-hour drive each way. We don't have a North-South 4-lane here, so once you leave Boise (or Lewiston, if you're going the other way), it's pretty much 2-lane all the way, with just a stretch of 4-lane along the Clearwater River. It's a lovely drive, but this time of year it's full of travel trailers, RVs, etc., especially between here and McCall.

I've seen their factory from a distance. They're right on the Snake River, just across from Clarkston, Washington. Didn't have time to stop in - I was there for some schooling. If I ever get up there again, I'll stop in and see if the rumor is true.

Just to add my .02 worth. I also have quit buying rem. ammo. Last brick of their Golden ammo had quite a few duds. The 30-06 core-lokts I bought had small dents in a couple of them. Called Rem. and all they said was sorry. Thats it for them.

I don't like Rem bullets for reloading. Never liked their factory ammo. At the moment the only Rem factory ammo I have is for my 300 RUM and those will be used up in practice this summer, then I will reload the brass with some Barnes TSX bullets.

I am a Remington fan of guns and target shotshell ammo. Love my 870, 11-87's and 700's.  With that said I truly believe that Remington makes the WORST 22 ammo on the market. I pretty well grew up using Rem 22's and cannot possible begin to remember all the problems that I have had--those problems still exist today with new production Remington 22's.
