I bought this today at the local pawn shop for $175. It is a Mohawk Brown Nylon 66 like the one I bought when I was 11. It has a barrel date of Jan 1969. I bought mine in 1959 the first year of the model.
I shot it the back yard and it ran very well and seemed accurate. After firing I took it apart for cleaning and I have never seem a more gunked up rifle and this includes a couple M16s in Vietnam that were so corroded they would not open.

I used to have one of those, mine didn't cost any where near what you paid for the current one.
Great little rifle, beginning of a new era for materials used in fire arms.

I paid $50 for the one I bought in 59 and of course it was new but I think they are beginning to appreciate in value. I don't really need it but it is just like the one my brother shot the tv tray leg off while my father was eating supper on it. I was away at college.

I remeber seeing the adds for the Remington Nylon 66 in Boy's Life when I was a youngster. I wanted one so badly I couldn't stand it. I always thought they were the sexiest looking rifle in existence. Maybe if my folks had bought me one, I wouldn't have become so nuts about guns...well, maybe not.
I need to find one and buy it, then take it out to play. Better late than never. Damn, 72, I envy you! Good find and purchase!

I think we got mine with Green Stamps, of course that was back in the day.
A fellow Scout, we seem to find each other no matter the distance or era.

I have one just like your and love it. I have own more than ten Nylon 66 over the years . These rifle are almost fool proof and one of my favorite with open sights. My one complain about these rifles is keeping count of the shells you drop down the magazine , just wish Remington would have made the loading port in the side of the stock so you would know how many round you had in the tube.

I've got a Nylon 66 Black Apache (chrome receiver cover and chrome barrel). I bought it for my wife in 1965.
She later bought me a dress, and she still claims the gun and I never got to wear the dress.
Nice little gun, used mostly for spotlighting rats at the city dump. Cheap entertainment for whilst I was going to college and we didn't have any money. Wasn't the gun of choice, tho, for squirrels-too much flash.

I wanted one so bad I could taste it in 1966 (I was 16). Mom bought me a Ted William/Sears/Craftsman POS .22 instead that Christmas and saved $3.18 in purchase price.
God love her -- she didn't know the difference. Now I can afford one, I can't find one.

Hey Sako,
I took mammology and did my museum mounts also. I graduated from Oklahoma State with a BS in Wildlife Biology back in '79. I bought my 66 in 1971 and I don't know how many millions of rounds I've run through it. I've never broken it down for cleaning and I'm not sure I know how.
