I have a Mossberg 46 M which I was given, I wanted to load it with a bunch of 22 Shorts, but the tube magazine hangs up the tension rod with these little guys.
As that G'Hogs started showing up today, I thought I would keep this next to the back door.
Any one have any advice concerning this?

I have the later Mossberg 146b, but haven't ever tried .22shorts in it. I do like the "high capacity" tube magazine though - it's my favorite 'squirrel rifle'.
I bought it as a rusted ruin from a young guy at the local range here, needing to sell some guns to pay for his Grandad's funeral. Seems the old feller had a bunch of guns stashed all over his house. This old Mossy was stashed under his trailer! It looked aweful, but I figured I could use the stock for a project - gave the kid $40 for the relic.
Then, I ran a cleaning rod down the bore, expecting it to be rough as a cob and pitted - it came out mirror bright! DANG! I figure the coating of waxy .22 lube protected it!
After a couple days of heavy-duty cleaning, derusting and finally refinishing, it looks and shoots like new! Even the S130 peep sight cleaned up good.
Seems you just can't ruin a good Mossberg twentytwo!

Bigdog, I've had a 146B for 43 years. Shorts are about the most accurate round in mine. When I was a kid more squirrels fell to shorts than anything else. As I recall they were about .59 per box, Long Rifles were about .89 a box. Biggest problem with shorts is getting the inside brass tube back down the magazine tube. Those shorts stack up in there at a fairly steep angle. Threading the tube in can be a little frustrating. RD

That must be the problem I am having, getting that rod back into to the tube is really hard and I am not about to push harder or strike it.
Thanks,
Jerry

Maybe try gently shaking or tapping the butt on the floor as you ease the tube down? Jostling the Shorts should let the tube slide down over them.

Bigdog, I see your thinking on this and it works for the first two or three but once the spring pressure starts to build on the stack there not a lot of jostle to it. The more you put in the tougher it gets. RD
