Am I able to shoot .22 shorts in any .22 LR chamber? I want to use the shorts for quiet practice and pigeons.
Thanks

You can shoot shorts in most any long rifle chamber. But be sure to clean any lead that may deposited at the front of the long rifle chamber before it begins to build up.

If you want quiet, find some Aquila .22 Kolibri, CB caps. 20 grain bullet powered by the primer, also the Super Kolobri has some propellent in it, and runs a bit faster. Neat playstuff, works for quiet plinking and pest elemination.

it'll shoot them as wheez said but they may not feed from the mag ...and as charely said there are some companies who make long rifle sized 22's designed to be quieter,i've tried the aguila subsonic loadsin the 22 walther pistol ( both with and without a can -awesum fun !!)fairly quiet for a pistol and pistols are usually much louder than rifles ,look for the sub sonic stuff and that lead build up ring 72 mentioned if ur weapon does shoot shorts or longs

Aguila Colibri is rated at 350FPS, and Super COlibri at 500FPS.
They can stick in a long tight bore (such as a target rifle) - I know! But in most mass-market .22 rifles, they work fine. My Henry lever-action loves them, and they cycle fine. Probably work in a tube magazine rifle. They will NOT cycle a semi-auto though.
I often use them for quiet indoor shooting (using a large rag-stuffed box for backstop), when it's raining out or if I need to get a ball-park adjustment on a sight or scope without going to the range. Since I am single, no problems regarding SWMBO!
They will kill small animals, but not necessarily immediately. I bounced one off the skull of a home-invading possum once at point blank - he shook it off and ran. Found him dead under the house a few days later.
