I know it ain't manly but I just feel like crying.

After a long day of plinking in the desert yesterday it was time to start cleaning. I broke down my Inland M1 Carbine and found the gas port was cracked.  I never would have suspected a problem while shooting 60 round. I've been reloading the C309-113F on 12g of 2400 for many years.

This was the first rifle I ever purchased back in 1972. Paid $150 for it. The bore was and still is clean and bright.

I spent the last 2 hours looking for a "new" Inland barrel but so far no luck.

You may want to buy a barrel to use until you find an Inland.

sorry to hear bout your misfortune, With the value these days of the carbines, youll still have a good gun at a low price even with buying another barrel. I wanted a origional carbine but settled for a modern production KAHR one. I could have bought a inland at the same place but it looked pretty tough and it was about the same price. You might check around on gunbroker to.

I found one at Riverbank Armory listed as MINT for twice what I paid for her.... but she's SO WORTH IT!

Broke again:rolleyes:

The gunsmith I've used here in Phoenix (Caswell's) doesn't do barrels.

I'm sure this is beyond my skill level (= ZERO)

Any of you folk do this?

Do you have the armors manual for the carbine? You need a set head spacing gauges and some quiet time to be able to do this, just go really slow when fitting anything like this. No coffee or alcohol for two prior to doing this.

Actually this much simpler than you think. Remember this was designed for the army to maintain.

Thanks for this post. Yes I think I've collected every accessory except the barrel  wench. I love to do this but from what I've read.... I'm just concerned !

What would the the gauges, the wrench and barrel block run vs a gunsmith?

Wouldnt a simple go no go guage be suffecient jerry? I knew a guy that made a barrel vice by makeing a box with two side open and bolting it to a bench. On the top he welded a 3/4 inch or so nut. Inside the "box" he used two blocks of wood that he cut a round taper in for the barrel to lay in. Empty space was shimmed with strap iron etc etc between the bolt that tightened down on the barrel between the blocks by threading it down thru the nut on the top. In the wood when the barrel is clamped between the blocks some Rosin was put on the the blocks and barrel to grip. Crude but it does work and prob can make one out of junk laying around seriously.  Sorry thats a crude description i relize.

don't worry I'll be seeking info for every step of the process!

Ebay has "M1 CARBINE receiver wrench & barrel block tools m - 1" for $85, is this a good deal?

Thanks for the heads up! The guy on ebay wants $11.25 for shipping, Fulton want only $10 so that's the way I'll go
