Just a matter of dollars, I've built rifles on both receivers in the past and there isnt a bit of difference between them. Either one will make a fine varmint rifle. BTW, are you gonna use a 1:7 twist barrel?

Reason I was thinking 1 in 7 was if you wanted to shoot heavier bullets, like the 77gr matchking, supossed to be hell on coyotes.

Timberghozt,

Whatever AR-15 you build up, you'll be happy with it. I didn't care for these rifles until Melanie bought one. I thought it would be a nice "plinker" for her to mess with at the range, and out in the desert. Then I found out how accurate they are straight out of the box! Hers is the standard Bushmaster A-2. She didn't want the A-3 with a scope. This thing is really nice! It runs great and shoots standard ball ammo better than my CZ 527 LUX in the same caliber shoots my careful handloads. She gets along great with iron sights, I like scopes at my "old age".   billt

Hey Billt..That lady can derned sure shoot for sure.:thumbs:My eyes are not what they used to be but I still do ok ironsight if I wear my glasses.I`ll be putting a scope on this rifle for sure though.I hunt coyotes year round and if I`m going to build another rifle chambered for 223 Rem, its gotta be able to fill the bill shooting Wiley...

Hey Long, I may go with a  1 in7 or 1in 8" twist.I haven`t made up my mind yet.I`ve been getting pretty good accuracy out of the 75 gr AMAX in my 12BVSS-S.It is still up in the air which upper detail I will go with...decisions,decisions..:lol:

Timber,  my AR carbine has the 1/7 twist.  My Rem 700P has 1/9.  I've had good results with bullets from 55gr to 69gs in both rifles.  I haven't tried anything heavier.

I don't have any first hand experience with recievers other than the Colt's I've owned.   There's a few good companies out there from what I see on the net.  There's even a company making a left-hand receiver now.

It should be a fun project for you.

My Bushmaster Varminter has the 1&9 twist and the last group i shot with the 55 gr Nosler BT and Win 748 was .417 at 100 yards. Unless you are planning on shooting nothing but very heavy bullets i wouldn't go above the 1&8 twist. The 1&8 will handle up to 75 gr bullets very well and the 1&9 will handle up to 70 gr. I don't think i would  use bullet any heavier for coyotes in the 223 .
