Does anyone have a Romanian AK-47? There is a big gun show coming to Phoenix in the first week of December and J&G Sales, along with a lot of other vendors will be there selling Romanian AK's new in the box for around $320.00. I have been thinking about getting one. I just wondered how the guys who have them, like them? I don't want to put $700.00+ into a first class Arsenal milled model, I just want something to play with out in the desert. Is there anything that I should look for, and or, avoid? Also, what kind of ammo do you prefer in your AK? Wolf Polymer coated stuff sells well here, and is priced right. Opinions?  Thanks in advance.  billt.

Built,  I haven't seen the Romanian models.  Are they fixed stock or underfolders.   I have a Yugoslavian Zastava AK folder.  Damn reliable gun.  I use a lot of the Wolf and haven't had any problems with it.   When I bought this around '90 or so I also got a Chinese 75 round drum.   That drum makes an AK so much fun....and hot!   The price sounds real good.   I bet you end up getting one.  Or two..

Heres mine and I love it!!!!! It loves Wolf Ammo:thumbs: The only thing I think of is to be sure and check the gas tube as you dont want any signs of rust.  While your at it see if you can pick up a bolt recoil buffer as it will save your receiver from  constant punishment although they were made for it I was told its better to have one.  Jimmy

First you don't need a milled steel reciever to have a good reliabile gun. :sofa: I have stayed away from the sheetmetal stamped guns for many years and its been my loss. Trust me its works fine.  I can own any other AK47 but the ones that shoot the 7,62x39 round here they are banned.  So i have them in 308win.  The Saiga is an AK47 in a sporter stock and it operates flawlessly. It spits out the 308 round as fast as its 7,62x39 brother too. I also have the Saiga in .223 also but i haven't had the time to shoot it yet. They do sell the Romanian WASR here in .223 right now for $450.  The sheetmetal design of the AK47 is a good design and i'm sure you will be happy with its performance too. The only thing i did was to lube them up with MOLY. My very first new chinese sks from the late 80's shows no sign of any wear yet at all.  My new Saiga has no wear yet on the rails yet either. Now i wonder what will last longer the chromed lined barrel or the reciever/bolt carrier thats lubed with moly?  I put a little moly in the gas system too on the piston, it can take the heat and even after its long gone from the surface of the gas piston its still in the pores of the metal reducing all friction and wear. The gun cycles faster and smoother.  I'll bet if you moly up your Romanian AK it will feel like a different gun the next time you shoot it.

I have heard about a lot of shooter grade yugo sks's having wornout gas systems because no lube was used :shameon: and i wonder why  but i have always put a little moly on all my semi auto's that have gas pistons :rolleyes:so all the friction/wear is elimated. Moly my guns never leave home without it.:troll:

I have to laugh:lol: too because there are still guys out there who run the pistons dry:shameon: and they will be replacing either their guns or buying parts to repair them in the near future if they shoot alot. If they can find the parts. I will never pay for the same gun twice because of my mistake:thumbs: its the best $25 you will ever spend. Yup its only a $100 gun and its ok a $100 is alot of money to me to waste.:stupid:

Moly works into the small pores of the metal so there is no metal to metal contact its moly against moly thus no friction, no wear and no galling. Moly also prevents corrosion too so what more can you ask a lube to do? There's nothing else on the planet like it.

I have nothing to do with the sales of moly but i have a campain against "all wear" when it can be prevented with just a simple lube.

I have always lubed gas pistons on semi autos. I can't see running any metallic surface dry. On my wifes 2 Beretta A-390 Trap Guns I lube them just before assembly and find they run all day, (400 targets) without a hitch. At the end of the day they also clean up much easier. I always shoot semi auto handguns with enough lube so you can see it oozing out of the slide at the frame. I think you can hurt a gun with too little lube, more than you can with too much.  Bill T.

I don't have an AK I should have bought one when I was at the Tulsa show in Oct. They were cheap there and I'm really kicking myself for it now.  Afterwards I found that a good friend of mine bought two. One for his house and one for his truck that he drives around his ranch. He said that the one for the truck fits perfect behind his seat and knocks the living crap outta coyotes and skunks.  He also told me that his was a Romanian and he doesn't have any issues with it.   Hope you find one dirt cheap.

  Take care Be safe Poacher.

I've never really cared for the AK family. Have no problem with others owning them, of course, just don't really want one. Not much that a  semi-auto  AK will do that an SKS will not, anyway.

First I never was too fond of the "AK's" either but my SKS's don't come in 308win or .223 and the Saiga's do. I like the sks too.

I get my moly from  http://www.mcmastercarr.com   just search for a anti-seize and have way down the page they have a premium blend of moly anti-seize it has a higher percentage of moly in it.  Or go to http://www.ts-moly.com   I use the TS-70 either place has the same moly.

Do not put too much moly in your gun and test fire it before going hunting at least for the first time when using moly so you get the hang of how much to use in it.

When the gun is first assembled with moly I run the bolt carrier by hand many times to burnish it in.  It may feel tight at first but it will smooth right out as it works in right away you will feel the difference as the friction & drag becomes less and less on the bolt carrier. Now your ready to test fire it.  You will notice the quicker movement of the bolt carrier meaning you will have less cycle time the gun operates faster and smoother.  Once the gun has the moly in the pores of the metal your good to go it will never show any kind of wear at all.  All my new guns that i have shot and owned for many years still have the bluing were the bolt carrier rides it hasn't worn off yet from wear nor heavy shooting.  Remember to put some moly on the trigger sear too.  It will feel like you have an expensive trigger job done.  It can make the worst trigger pull feel good too.  I use it in all my pistols, revolvers, bolt action rifles and semi-auto's too.
