I just received my British Enfield No1 Mk3 303 from Aim Surplus for $79.  Its not a bad rifle just looking it over.  The stock is well preserved(oiled) and some of the finish on the metal is gone but for the price it doesn't look bad it sure fits the bill as a battle rifle.

Nothing like a SMLE. Funny thing is, I don't have one!  I do have three Enfields, though. A no4MkI Long Branch, a No4 mkI/II that I cannot recall the maker of, and a BSA No1MkI that I aquired before I really got into collecting milsurps.  I found out later that I made quite a deal on it!

The bore looks like a shooter too.  I have a No4 Mk1 long branch for many years in the safe growing roots.  I guess i'm going to the britts now.

I just went thru that too with the misses I showed her the prices on gunsamerica, gun broker and auction arms  then i showed her the prices on Southern Ohio Gun, Aim Surplus, Century Arms and Samco.  The prices on the net like gunsamerica the prices are double and sometimes more.  I told her now is the time to get a few more toys before I can't afford them.  I did good:sofa: and got the ok for a few bolt actions.

No I mk III's are a great, great rifle. Down here in Oz there are heaps of them and to this day are still respected by men of the land. A few years ago you could ask any farmer what guns he had and the answer would always be the same .22, 12 guage and the ol' three oh. When you think about it even now there are few jobs this trio can't handle. I can tell you from experience the difference between a .303 180 gn pill at 2450 - 2500fps and a .30-06 180gn pill at 2700fps has the same effect on game. Hit 'em right they drop straight away, hit 'em poorly and make sure you've packed your walking boots.

.303's rock!

If I could figure out how to post pics I'd show you one of a friend hitting a 2'X2' rock at 1,200 yards with his No.1 lithgow!

I was never into Enfields until a coworker sold me a Longbranch Number 4 Mk1* for $50. he wanted the money back he pawned for the rifle 10-15 years ago, in the Coast Guard.

With 174gr Hornady FMJ/BT over 32gr H-4895 in virgin brass, she will give me 1 MOA. With factory Federal 150gr Powerpoint, I can get 2.5 inches all day long, about 2 inches above POA.

Just told the wife about the Ishy No2A .308 rifles at AIM for $169, and she apologized for spending the money she did this payday, or I could have gotten one.... WAHHH!!!!

This one is mine that I bought new in the Cosmoline back in the 90's. It's a Mark IV. I found some new extra magazines and Stripper Clips new at a gun show as well. The Bayonet and Scabbard are also new and flawless. I should have bought more!!  Bill T.

They sure are purdy in any condition.  They have the smoothest and fastest running bolt out of all my surplups.  I see the ones at AIM but i been holding off for a while to see what others get first.

We shoot them out to 1,100 yards up here, both the NO.1'S AND THE nO.4'S.

My older brother took mine to Bisley in '66 and did quite well with it.
I will still shoot MOA.

One of these days I will try to get out to Tucson Rifle Club to see what my milsurps will do at 1000 yards...wonder if I can even scare the paper?

Thats an idea I've always admired. Shooting at 1,000 yards with iron sights. Real shooting the way it's meant to be!   Bill T.
