If your just thinking of getting a few C&R surplus military guns you may want to get your C&RFFL.  It makes everything so much easier to buy & collect these treasures. Plus you get a discount on ammo,  reloading tools and supplies too.  It costs $30 and takes about a month to get it.  Then you make copies of it and either fax it or send them out after signing them to the dealers and wholesalers you think your going to do business with and your good to go. Everything gets delivered to your door.  What you save on your first purchase pays for getting your license.  You can own, touch and shoot a piece of history that have served in many battles that they have won and lost.  Don't just sit back get your C&RFFL today and enjoy these fine treasures while they are still available to us today.  Get them before there all gone and you'll be happy you did too. They are affordable, they are accurate and they make great game getters too they can put meat on the table too. They will serve you well at such a low cost its one of the best investments you'll ever make for the prices will never go down on them. Wether you own a famous Swedish 6,5mm Mauser or a Russian Mosin that fought the Germans or a German 8mm mauser or a Brittish Enfield they all are fun to shoot and collect. Its a sport you can do at your leasure and stop and start up again inbetween too. These make great attention getters at the range too. It does draw an interest on what your shooting that is so accurate or noisy(muzzle blast).  These old war horses need good homes too!!!!!!!

Hey Doc thats awesome that you have that but i know the batf here has put many FFL01 holders out of business lately.  I think the numbers were like 50k at onetime and now were down to 12k across our land.  They have been very tough with guys dealing/selling out of their houses.  I also think some get into to fill their own needs too and don't do much business.

But the C&RFFL is good for older guns and collecting them.  But on the other hand a local FFL01 holder will give us a discount on modern guns like cost plus a transfer fee.  I was pushed into getting my C&RFFL because no one locally wants to be bothered with C&R guns.  They kind of snicker at me when i mention them.  I have one dealer who doesn't have a clue about them either.  Its a shame because there is a good market for them right now and its growing so its really an untouched market for them.  Maybe its not worth the hassle on some of this stuff that is ordered so maybe they could stock them and let us pick off the rack.  My best local C&R shop closed up here when the gun laws changed about the AK's. The only way i can do it now is to have no own C&RFFL.  I think that having C&R guns can take up the slack when the slow times come for FFL01 dealers.

But on the other hand whats a dealer to do when he orders a C&R for someone and he doesn't like the condition I think thats were the problems lie so i reallly can't blame the dealers either.

For the unknowing, a C&R license IS a class of FFL. Many FFL01s have no idea what they are, and what is legal. According to some 03 holders on other forums, some of the ATF field people don't know much about them, either.

I've not bothered to get one. I'm fortunate that I do have several 01s as friends, and never have a problem ordering pretty much anything I want. There is also a monthly gunshow here where C&R guns are very common.

Thanks to Komrad Klinton, 01s did take a big hit. Does anybody remember the quote from him, and picked up by the anti-gunner? "There are more gundealers than there are McDonalds." Made great sound bite, but I've never seen anything in GCA68 limiting the number of dealers. Silly me, I thought the free market did that.
