Sure do like those. I was fortunate enough to buy one in a used rack for less than the importer was charging. Sometimes you get lucky buying more obscure designs, many have no idea what they have!

Also have the Hakim, same design in 8x57. Just as comfortable to shoot but LOUD!

Loud indeed. They also make M-1 thumb seem like a caress! That spring powered bolt can sure cut a divot of meat out on the gas tube.

I very nearly bought a Hakim from my old landlord years back - but then I learned that it wasn't his to sell - it belonged to his father.  His daddy was pissed that Junior was selling it - and he was the kind of feller you didn't want mad at you.

I have a 9mm Maadi Cadet pistol - civilian-market version of the Helwan.  Would love to have a Hakim rifle to go with it!

Swedish AG42B Ljungman 6,5x55 sweet!!!!!!!  I also have the egyptian Hakim 8mm mauser and the egyptian Rasheed 7,62x39 too.  These three unique rifles are the ones to have.  The Rasheed in 7,62x39 is suppose to be one of the finest rifles in that caliber.  I think that all three are great to have.

I picked up 6 hakims years ago when most were selling them because they were afraid to shoot them.  Most called it an out of battery firing but they were wrong.  I figured out by shooting the hotter ammo with the gas valve wide open the bolt carrier would actually pull back before the bullet left the end of the barrel hitting the shooter with the 50k of breach pressure in the face. scary??.

We need to adjust the gas valve to the ammo were shooting.  I close the gas port all the way clockwise and open it one click counter clockwise and load one round.  If the bolt carrier locks oped(last round fired empty mag) your good to go.  If its a tad sluggish i open it one more click. Your brand of ammo may differ.  The less its open the less gas the system sees to operate it.  The egyptain Hakim,  egyptain rasheed and the russian svt-40 tokarev operate the sameway.

The Russian SVT-40 seems to run around the 1.3 gas setting.  It seems to be the norm.  But inspect the gas valve closely because it has very small ports (gas holes). And make sure the scribed lines are lined up exactly on the gas screw or it won't cycle.

Now the FN49 is totally different the gas port is an exhaust port so the more its open the better.  I start off with the gas port all the way open and close it a tad till the bolt carrier operates and cycles by loading one round at a time and the bolt carrier locks open(last round rifred empty mag).

Besafe know your guns gas system and how it operates.  These will serve you well and give you many years of shooting pleasure.

I'll help you out Bill. I just bought a MAS 36 of another board. Should be arriving this week I hope. I had my eye on acquiring one of these for about a year now. Kept coming up a day late and a dollar short.  You know what they say, "The old blind sow finds an acorn every now and then."

My shooting buddy and I shot this morning at the Public Range out in the National Forest.

He put a few rounds of old 1938-dated Nazi-marked ammo through his M95 Steyr carbine - gorgeous example of the type.  Best stock I have seen yet!

I shot two through the chrony - they clocked 2360 and 2370 FPS - I had expected higher velocity!  These weren't much faster than the 7.62X39 out of his Yugo SKS!

But they kicked a whole lot more!

I just picked up a Model 1891 Argentine Mauser in 7.65 x 53.  I had to take it.  I was in a shop of snooty people, amongst a wall of over priced AKs and AR 15s.  It looked liked it needed a new home, and for $100 dollars I could not pass it up.  It has been sporterized, with a shortend stock and weaver bases topped off with a old Tasco 3-9x40 scope.  I havent measured the barrel yet.  The action cycles bueatifully.  Cannot use the safey because the scope is mounted to low.  However, when put to shoulder, feels natural. To top it off, the local gun shop I normally hang out at has a whole bunch of ammo.  I beleive it is reloadable stuff too.  With that and some dies, I will be all set to go to the desert and try it out hopefully within the week.

I've always liked the 1891 Argentines, most I've seen have been damned good shooters. Even if the ammo you saw isn't boxer primed, 7.65x53 is easy enough to form from .30/06.

I bought a 98 Mauser off a friend of a friend a couple of months ago.  It has been rebarreled and the barrel is marked U.S. Military .30-06.  It was topped off with a Steel Tubed Weaver K-4 scope and shot well.

I was only able to put five rounds through it before I paid the man for it. But the first three were in a 1" group at 100yds and the other 2 only opened it up to 1 1/2"

Every deer season someone is always asking to borrow a rifle it seems so that is why I wanted it...the old stock has a steel buttplate and kicks like hell...But hey...Beggars can't be choosers right?

I wont say what I paid for it because it was embarrasingly low...I need to do a little work on the stock..a little acrglass here and there and who knows....I might even take it to the woods myself.

Make sure you clean if properly. That is corrosive ammo.

Found a captured Swede Mauser rechambered to '06 and a partially sporterized 303 British. Now I have to buy some 303 dies--yes !!! Couple of months ago I picked up a "sardine" can of Garand clips(192 rds) that is going into storage beside the three ammo cans of '06 ball and AP. Will have them at the gathering to try out. Got to do some sighting in. I just hate not knowing where rifles hit. wc

I picked up an argentine carbine that was reworked by Ye Old Gun Shop in LA.  They took the log barrel and shortened it into a engineers carbine.  You can tell it by the swept back bent bolt.  It won't chamber the arg round so i need to do a cast of the chamber to find out what caliber it is.  Its a great looking gun with its orginal stock.

I also found a swede 94 but its been sporterized.  I need to make an orginal stock for it.
