For a while Century Arms was distributing guns built on Imbel receivers using Steyr parts.  For the last couple of years (maybe more) they have been using their own receiver and I hear these aren't so good but the one's on Imbels, though not a real FN, arent all that bad.

I have two of the former (one metric and one English).  Both shoot well enough to keep.  I had to tinker with the gas system on the carbine as it did not have enough port pressure to cycle.

TG

Looks like you're basically SOL when it comes to finding one for a good (cheap) price.  All the original ones and not parts guns are running at least $3K.  The not so good ones are a little less.  I've got three sitting around that were expensive to begin with and will be buried w/me.  Of course, my dead body and weapons will be booby-trapped in case of tomb robbers.:wink:

Avoid the Century rebuilds like the plague. Century's drunken monkey gunsmiths ruined many fine parts kits, including the CETME I was dumb enough to purchase. Nowadays, the new Century galils prove they finally figured out what the problem is - they're outsourcing thier rebuilds to people who walk upright and sober.

I would love an FAL, but with so many frankenFALs out there, I would save pennies fora DSA STG58...LOTS of pennies.  Since I have darn few pennies, this is why my SHTF rifle is a Yugo SKS...

BTW< check falfiles.com for more FAL info, and maybe a line on a decent one.

Gunbroker.com is where I generally start looking.

DSA makes an awesome FAL if you have the $$$.

I have an Enterprise I have been happy with though I personally think the DSA is of higher quality.

Another toy to consider is an Israeli Galil.  They are accurate in both 308 and 223.  Don't know what prices are now but they're battle tested and are the cream of the crop when it comes to AK derivatives.
