Any body have an O3 Springfield?I have an old 03 Springfield  that has been sporter stocked .My dad likes the rifle so I left it with him until he gets tired of it.It has a marking on the barrel that say Remington 42 SS on the barrel?Anybody know what that means?

Its a good old rifle

It was re- barrled in 1942. I forget what the SS satnds for. Probably the initials of what company did it.

Hey saddlesore.That is kind of what I was thing.Maybe Singer Sewing Machine?I know they built some, but I`m not sure..:confused:

I'll have to check some references but I think the year is right for a bunch of other folks to jump in on the 03a3 band wagon like Singer. 

I honestly think that the 03A3 with double heat treated metal is a fine battle rifle.  Perhaps more elegant than the garand but still can hold its own.

I have been looking for an action to build on but I'll probably never find one that I'd be willing to chop up.
