I've got some Varget and was wondering if anyone has ever tried it with a WW2 semi auto (Ljungman in my case)?

| I'vce aways used H or IMR 4895, or AA 2520. Varget splits the difference in burn rate, it should work.

I only used IMR4895 in all my military semi auto's with CCI #34 nato primers so far. The IMR 4895 burn rate is perfect for the cycle timing of the semi auto's. I haven't had a chance to experiment with any other powder yet. I would start out with lighter loads at first and watch the cycling. Make sure the bolt carrier is slamming the rear of the receiver. Thats a clue its too hot. My svt-40 did that with the gas valve all the way open. It was like getting slammed with a baseball bat after firing one round i knew something was wrong. I purchased it on the way to the range so i test fired it without checking it out first. Thats the last time i ever did that.
I know the swedish ljungman is very ammo finiky too. It doesn't like the hotter ammo like PMC and even the swedish M41B sniper ammo its hotter too.
There is a guy on http://www.gunboards.com who has added a gas adjustment valve on his ljungman too. Its funny the hakim and rasheed have gas adjustment valves while the ljungman doesn't.
I have a rasheed and I picked up a ljungman a few years back for $350 and i haven't shot them yet.
Gas settings on my military semi auto's;
Egyptian Hakim 8mm 1 click to 2 clicks open
Russian SVT-40 gas setting on 1.3
I shoot my 8mm egyptian hakim alot what a cannon. This design rocks.

| Well I made 3 with 35 grains and 3 with 36 grains, and the 3 with 35 grains came out at 2500 fps even, so I just took the other 3 home. The brass was good too (no damage) so I'll make up a few more and shoot for group size next time. My 4064 shoots 2 inch groups now so it'll be hard to beat. All were 140 Amax.

| I'm waiting for your experiment to bear fruit. Not many of us shooting AG42s, so it's nice to get some other input.

Well I couldn't beat the 2 inch groups I was getting with IMR4064 but I did get a lot of little figure-8's: One with each 5 shot group and 1 group had 2 so it feels like it has better potential. It really pushes that bolt fast too compared to 4064.
I also loaded down 2 groups to 2350-2360 (34.8grs). One group had Sierra 142's and the other Amax 140's and neither was very accurate so I'll stick to 2475 -2500fps for a while.
All the loads had an o.a.l. of 2.985-2.989.
I would like to try some 4895 but there was none within 1000 miles of where I live last time I looked so I'll burn this stuff off for now.

I just didn't have the time to shoot my ljungman or my rasheed because i been busy shooting the hakim. The rasheed is said to be the cadillac of the 7,62x39 rifles. Its neat to see all 3 lined up together.
I reload all my military surplus ammo using #34 CCI nato primers and IMR4895 powder wether its for semi autos or bolt actions so i can't mix up the ammo. Its safer that way.
I know we have to beware of over the counter new ammo because its too hot for the ljungman. I think the Priv-partizan ammo was ok to shoot. You can also ask the guys on http://www.gunboards.com in the swede section there's a lot of ljumgman shooters there.
Funny i just had the safe opened the other day to oil everything up. I pawed my lungman for a while.

I remember the lot of PMC 6.5x55 that was really hot. Heard stories of guys blowing primers in Mausers with it.
