When loading for your battle rifle, do you crimp your bullets?

I'm loading for my 5.56 AR.  I have been trying to make reasonably accurate SHTF and range ammo. . .before I throw $10 at a crimp die, I thought I shoud ask others what they do.

I use the Lee FC die, I notice a little bit of accuracy improvement with it. It really only works with a bullet with a cannalure.

I have loaded and shot perhaps 90,000 rounds of 223. All in an AR and never crimped a single case.

I don't shoot for bench rest accuracy though, I will accept any load that shoots less than 0.6 inches at 100 yards for 10 shots.

It is recommended to crimp for the AR however I have loaded rounds and not crimped , I have loaded and TC and now I use the lee FC and my groups do get tighter when I crimp also.... of all the methods I use the lee the most ..... If its your shtf gun and your shtf ammo I would definitely crimp imho

Also forgot sometimes when I wasnt crimping i would pull a mag after a few  rounds and re check oal and some were shorter however they would all fire so unless you actually pull out  a mag and check you may never know anything is happening... recoil can knock the cartridges into the mag and seat the bullet further in the case. Just an FYI

I crimp using the lee crimp, when using Vmax bullets in my bushy varminter. I ejected a live round and had the bullet stick in the throat and pull from the case, filling my lower full of Varget.
Granted I was a bit on the long side, but crimping saves me the embarassment of having to pour powder out of my action, a grabbing a cleaning rod to clear my rifle at the range. Yes I did get a few looks.

With some bullets, such as ones with a cannelure to it, I use the Lee Factory Crimp, these work well in my AR, but I also have a Contender Super 14 and a Contender Carbine and the crimp really helps with those in the way of accuracy. When I am loading CBs in my 223 for the Contenders, I do make sure they are all crimped. I think the crimp gives a little for delay in the ignition and gives the bullet a touch more speed.

Just my 4 cents worth,

Jerry
