anything that makes a firearm full auto is an BATF restricted device. a license to posses costs $200.00 and takes about 3-6 months.

I know that, but owning a sear if different than owning the full auto weapon. This maybe in between.

If no one makes it, it just may be fun to know how it works.

if you were to get caught with a full auto sear you would go to jail and lose the priveledge of firearms ownership forever. it's not worth messing with without the license. but if you were to get the license you could get your full auto m-16 for $800.00 instead of the $10,000.00 they want for one now.

Swamp,

I already have gone thru the phase in a guys life of having a rockin roller, load all week and shoot for 20 minutes on Saturday afternoon.

The last real M16 that I saw in a Gun Store was a bit more than $800, more like $10 grand.

Jerry, what i meant was that instead of paying $10,000 for a m-16, an ar-15 could be bought for much less and converted, thereby essentially winding up with a useable full auto for considerably less money.

Swamp,

You can no longer create a new automatic weapon, either thru conversion or new manufacture, I think has been true since 1987. I could be wrong, but since then the price of full auto or select fire weapons have gone thru the roof.

I wasn't aware of the change in law, but did wonder why they were able to get such ridiculous prices.

Swamp,

I get Dealers who sell select fire weapons calling me up and asking me to make a part of this auto or that select fire weapon, because they were converted way back when and those conversion parts are no longer made for public consumption.

When all free men and women of America have to fight an oppressive government, will you be able to hold your own? If Obama becomes president, are you be willing to turn in your weapons when the government decrees that you do so?

It is better to have knowledge and not need it, than it is to need knowledge and not have it.

I can give you the 411 on the Lightning Link. They were originally manufactured by Intratec, (Cobray). You can not get a tax stamp for it unless you can prove that it was built before May 1, 1986. They are bringing around $8000 for a pre-ban Lightning Link. You can buy the LL for the 8 grand then pay $200 for the tax stamp and go through the proper paper work through the BATFE. If you own a complete lightning link it is considered a machine gun. You can not build one then get the tax stamp. The BATFE considers any weapon that can fire more than one round with a single pull of the trigger a machine gun. But it had to be built before May 1, 1986 for it to be legally owned by an individual. M-16's are still available new to Military, Government, and Law Enforcement. They can buy them for the same price you or I can buy an AR rifle for.

Now back to the lightning link. They are relatively easy to build and cost next to nothing. They work very well but they are rifle manufacturer specific. You can also make them select fire if you use select fire safety from an M-16. Because of slight differences they will not work in every AR rifle. If you build it to work in a Bushmaster it will not work in a DPMS. They were originally built to be used in the Colt SP-1's by Cobray. I built several for a class 3 dealer. He could build them and sell them to law enforcement. And now you know, The rest of the story.

Just wait, tonight after the debate on foreign policy, we may need to take cover from those who lead.

I was thinking about trying to make this without putting into an AR that is not licensed as select fire. One method is every man at home with a hand saw blade and some files or a Dremel tool. And try to make a die punch to see if this can be made that way.

I am rewiring my machine shop this week, so will be some delays on making things.

It is illegal to convert a semi-auto rifle to full-auto, unless you comply with BATF regulations.  The Lightning could get you into a lot of problems.  If a semi-auto rifle goes full-auto, for whatever reason, a person can get prosecuted and jailed.  On another forum a discussion was held about a person whose AR went doubles due to malfunction.  The guy was prosecuted and is in jail for it.  Beware and if in doubt, check with BATF.

On January 15th, 2009 this whole issue will become moot.

Everyone here knows that home made machine guns are illegal. They have been since 1986. Having information however is legal. All info shared here is for educational purposes only. Anyone who chooses to go any further than learning is responsible for his or her on actions.

Knowledge is the best weapon, using it is a different situation.

January 15th it will hit the fan and start taking effect on January 20th, so do like the Boy Scouts, and Be Prepared.

The MIB could be coming to a community near you with all of those 4473s in hand.
