I heard that the bill for serial numbering the ammo maybe passed soon with our new president.  Some states are showing interest already by getting on the band wagon.  This means the ammo will be registered by a serial number on the brass and bullet to us the purchaser.  This also means no more imported ammo and no more reloading it will be illegal.  We will have a two year grace period to shoot up our old ammo too. I have no idea who is steering the ship but it doesn't look like were going in the right direction.

Biden had a big part in our last awb bill too and we put him in office with a liberal president.  I have no clue how this happened to us.

Now, I can't help wondering how they intend to engrave or otherwise mark bullets so they won't get mucked up in a hot environment, like when the gun goes off.  Brass is another story, easy to do --.

Both ideas are useless for crime tracing.  Files do a remarkably good job of removing marks, even deeply engraved, and it isn't too hard to throw the MTs off the bridge after filing on the way home.  Even an idiot would know to take his brass with him.  Not too difficult either to take them home for the "investigators" to find, then direct them to the range and let them mine the backstop.  Even then, that is a negative proof which really won't hold up very well.

Yeah, I know that some chemicals will raise filed off numbers on steels but not if you go deep enough.  Might be true with brass as well, dunno.

Dumb.  Expensive.  Useless waste of taxpayer money.  (Along with a few other things unprintable.)

A really stupid bill. It won't work, but that won't make any difference to the antis.

We need to let our reps know that if they go along with this we will make it our sworn duty to see they are GONE in '10.

this bill is essentially dead at the moment - save the letters and phone calls until it gets out of committee and looks like something will happen. no need to inundate your critters before it is time.

Yep, just another variation of the tired old dog of an idea they keep trying to run each year - NO state wants the budget nightmare this would entail - not with today's tanking economy.  They just can't justify the cost.

Even the FBI, after years of trying to make something similar work, admits it is nonviable.

The ONLY possible way the Antis could get this goonybird off the ground is as a rider on another, MUST-PASS bill - THAT is the danger!  Keep after your Congress Critters - and keep them shooting this thing DOWN!

H.R. 45 is what it's called, you can view it on the Library of Congress web site, pretty scary.

There's another one out there that bans anything that the military has EVER used, that encompasses a lot of weapons!

If I find that one I'll post the info!

I want to know how this is going to be done? Serial number ammo is difficult at best, more likely impossible to do. The cost factor should be considered, if the government is going to mandate this, then the government must pay for it.

The U.S. government should stay out of business and trying to impliment crazy ideas.

I watched CSpan today, congress levied a tax on AIG exec of 90%, but nobody thought about making this a part of bail out when the money was being handed out. Plus if you cause a company to lose money, you should be fired.

HR 45 has nothing to do with serial numbering ammunition. HR 45 is about firearms registration, having to pass various tests, passport type photo, etc. It was introduced by Bobby Rush, has no co-sponsors, and probably won't go anywhere.

whoah whoah ! wait a minute fellows...i have seen hr 45 and the i.d. ammo bills -we can say that they are going nowhere etc .... sayin it is one thing -PLZ DO NOT think that they are dead ,there are many many people who wish even worse stuff ( ask any anti gunner) and yes they do upon occasion tack a bill like this onto another " must pass" bill ( in much the same way kansas got legal machine guns and silencers a few years back - the guv didnt like it but she signed it because of the must pass bill part , the anti gun agenda isnt all out in the open ( and how obama got elected is beyond me given his stance against guns that all of a sudden those sleepy eyed americans just now seem to note grrrr)as for the transparency of his administration - lol yeah rite same ol bureaucratic b.s. especially considering all the same ol players who were waiting in the wings -these bills need watched period -never dismiss them as if they never will happen for just when u look away someone will try -dont let them suceed!

We aren't saying they don't bear watching - we can't rest on our laurels.  But, we also don't need to bust a gasket over something that isn't a threat at the moment.  Bobby Rush is an ex-con lunatic that even his party wants nothing to do with.

Once the 2010 elections are behind us - THEN I believe the Democrats will strike.  Their jobs won't be at stake then.

no gaskets busted amigo but i also wont dismiss the bills ( nor the upcoming elections) yes the anti's will grab at anything to further their agenda -even their hidden agenda's..even things that are non related and so far fetched that no -one but their cohorts swallow like fine slop in the trough.. to say that at the moment the bills arent going far is truth ( for the moment )the current powers that be seem to love to reverse bills even good and sensible ones,i'll try my best as always to make informed choices during elections ( unlike sum who just vote party )the clinton era ban bill is back and this time they want to make it permanent, i do strongly hope that in the upcoming elections several things are put to right ..can i count on it ? sadly no but i do still have hope for america
hr 45 bites and bad , should be deep sixed( like forever ) and the implications of it are rather nasty ,i can only imagine that if the manufacture'ers are against it the anti's will grab it even harder that being said and following the bill where it says that all non-conforming ammo must be destroyed where does that leave the bullet caster ? no not the commercial one but say us individually ?there isnt much common sense in the bill and i hope it is deep sixed and if it ever is i bet a bunch of us will exhale deeply ...as to the control/anti crowd eh they are all about control after all and any straw they can grasp at they well ( even if it sinks them )

I have to almost agree with fry,   Now is the time to write congress ect..  These things seem to start slow then  BANG,  its done.   We need to put a lot of pressure on em, just in case...  And about that 90% tax, Thats against the 1st amendment.   I think they could get those moneys back from the ones who voted to give the bailout funds without even reading the bill or checking all the variables.    Just as we need to fight for the 2nd, we need to fight for all of the constitution.

Yep if they can tax those people like that, then they can do it to any of us. I hope there is some kind of lawsuit and they get their money back. I dont put any blame on AIG for them taking the bonuses. I put the blame on the government for using OUR taxdollars unwisely. This Obama powertrip needs to stop.

The 90% tax is a real boondoggle.  In the end, the company simply increases the charges to their customers to pay it - so it is WE the consumer getting taxed!

There was a big flap earlier when some folks thought the PTB had slipped some if not all of HR45's nonsense into the big Failout Package - hiding it among all the other tons of rotting pork.  Fortunately, that doesn't seem to have been the case - YET.

But that is an ever-present danger, most especially as this (mis)administration has a new-found penchant for demanding that their legislation be passed as an Emergency Measure -  with NO review and no chance of finding these little ticking time bombs...  Only Madame Pelosi really knows for sure all that is on her little 8-pound stack of spending bill TP.

If congress can do a bill in a knee jerk fashion, then we have to start worrying bout all the other bad stuff they can do.

The Ammunition Accountablity Act, is on the state level the last I knew. It was being pushed by the people that hold the patents on the technology that would be needed to adminaster it. Except for a few nutcase politicians no one else want anything to do with it.

I think this whole subject is rather off the wall, because of the cost and lack of working technology.

Plus here is a thought, does this apply to the military? I used to get ammo to shoot at the range while I was in the army, not all of it went to the range.
