I had some really bad ammo when I has firing that thing. Old, crusty stuff that I stripped out of captured magazines and pouches. A particular headstamp, I forget what it was but it had green primer sealant, would not fire correctly but instead gently detonated in the chamber, head separation and all. I say gently because all you felt was a thud instead of normal recoil, and then you would see the smoldering remnants of the cartridge sitting in the receiver.
A quick pull of the charging handle was all it took to clear the round and get back to shooting.

That was the nice thing about AKs, clearing a problem was really easy.
