Who owns what kind (if any) bolt action military bolt actions, and whats your favorite? Folks that know me know that I am very fond of the Russian Mosin Nagant, all variants, and own 4 of them, 2 M91/30's, a M44, and the newest addition is a VKT (Valmet) M39.

Well I don't "own" any.
But I've been looking hard at what I consider to be the best three:
Carl Gustadf M 96 Mauser in 6.5 Swede
ANY German or CZ M 98 Mauser
and the one I REALLY WANT, a M 1903 Springfield with double heat treatment for a project gun.

Here is a picture of my pride and joy. It's an Enfield Mk IV in .303 British. I picked this one up unfired in the Cosmoline complete with new bayonet and scabbard back in 1994 for only $160.00. The sad note is I only bought 1. I should have bought far more. I lucked out and found brand new extra magazines as well as new stripper clips at a local gun show a few months later. billt

This is a target of what it will print with standard ball ammo. This was thru the standard peep sights with Winchester Ball Ammo. In all honesty, my wife shot this target. She has really good vision. Far better than I do, and a much steadier hand. billt

It really was a 5 shot group. I don't know where the 5th shot went. It could have gone off the paper, but she usually calls her flyers. This one went to another place, as I doubt it went thru the same hole. But anything is possible. I try to be as honest as I can when posting targets. billt

Has anyone here ever delt with Mitchell's Mausers? I know they say you can get unissued Mausers from places other than Mitchell's, but I rarely see them. A few at gun shows, but a lot of them have a lot of handleing marks and such. For the price they seem really nice, and I'm thinking about getting one. I just wondered if anyone here has, or knows someone who has purchased one from them. billt

Alas, I don't own a single military bolt rifle. I'd probably get a '03 if anything. Just for kicks.
Billt, I've seen those ads for the Mitchell Mausers, and they do look good. I don't know anyone who's bought one, and I haven't seen one up close. Might be a nice shooter.

K31 SR, the quality and condition is hard to believe, the barrel measures .299-.307 and with a 2x scout scope and 160gr cgc at 2300 fps will do 1 1/2" at 100yds.
I also have a M44, Hungarian made, 1953, has a .304-..314 barrel and is really sorry with anything other than a sorta, .314 I make by sizing a .313 160gr cast gc to .314, the gc makes it more or less a .314 and with a 2x scout scope will do 1 1/2" at 50 yds, nothing to write home about.
Next gun show it goes away.

Billt;
If it will make you feel any worse, I bought a new jungle carbine at a dime store in McAllen in '60 for $14, traded it off for a Mossberg bolt action 20ga because no one had anything except surplus fmj ammo.

Here is Mitchell's website. http://www.mitchellsales.com/index.htm They offer some really nice stuff for the money. I doubt that you could go wrong in purchasing one of these rifles over the long haul. There won't be new ones to buy forever. billt

I'v got 3 8mm (Turkish, Yugo, and and action), a 6.5x55 Swede, a Nagent 41/30 in a plastic stock, a Nagant factory Sniper with all matching numbers (was unfired till about a month ago) with the P3 sight, leather covers and canvas action/scope cover, a type 53 (Chinese version), a 1913 303 Enfield, an 03 Springfield (sporterized) and a 1871 Dutch Beaumont.
The Beaumont is the most fun. Ammo was $55.00 for 20 rounds, but it is very accurate with black powder loads. I don't have dies (they are $350.00) but a 45 Colt resizing die works as a neck sizer and then just load it up.
My local range has military bolt matches every 3rs Sunday. I plan on showing up with the Beaumont one day. I'm not a very good shot with open sights (the Beaumont shoots 4 in groups) but I plan to lose in style.

An Enfield, 2 Swiss, 6 Mausers (all Turks), 5 Carcanos, 2 Lebels and a 1917 Enfield. I can't hit anything with the Carcanos, tried so many different loads that I got sick of it. About 4" groups is the best I can get with a machine rest. All the others are good shooters.

I've got a Carcano 6.5 and I can't doo very well with it either. The sights just aren't very good. Someone gave me a sack of old ammo for it, so it might do better.
