I have a few of the WW2 surplus military rifles but my favorite to shoot so far has been the Swedish M96 1907 Carl Gustaf 6,5x55 Mauser(29" barrel)  at 100yds benchrested it will print 1 1/2" to 2" groups with over the counter Sellier & Bellot ammo.  I'm sure it will tighten up if i roll my own ammo.  I like the mausers and mosins I have but one of my other favorites is the Finnish M39 Mosin 7,62x54.  These were orginal captured russian rifles that were reworked by the Finn's to shoot 1" MOA at 100meters. They changed the barrels, the sights and the stocks. The only thing that was orginal was the recievers.  They are very accurate rifles.  In the story of the Rifles of the White Death is where 4,000 russians attacked 32 Finn's and the russians retreated with 3,600 and there was 5 Finns left alive.  So it just goes to show us a few marksman armed with good rifles can sure determine a battle.  The Finns were known for making 600 meter shots with their M39's.  I look forward to benchresting the mosins soon to see how they all shoot when compared against each other with the same ammo.  These old war horses sure can shoot.    BigBill

I have a few of these old military bolt action rifles and the Finn M39 is at the top of the heap.  In the racks are Mosin-Nagants, M38, M44, M91/59, M91, M91/30, M39, one PU Sniper and one SVT40.  There are also several Mausers, K98, Yugo, Swede, Czech, Turk, and a .308 Spanish. There are also a few straight pull bolt action rifles, K31, Steyr M96. The other bolt action rifles include a Brit Jungle Carbine, a couple of Krags, Slug of Carcanos, French MAS 36/51.  The Nagant rifles are my favorite because of the history, they are fun to shoot, and the ammo is less than $.10 a round, and they actually are accurate shooters even with the awfull trigger pull.  The M96B Swede, with target, sites is the most accurate one I have so far.  With all of that said, my WTSHTF go to rifle is an M14/S, the PolyTech version of the M14, but it is not a bolt action.

I've got a Russian Nagant that I put a plastic stock on. Paid $40.00 for the gun and $39.00 + shipping for the stock. At the range I tried it out at 100 yards and got a 1 1/2 5 shot group with open sights. I was impressed! That was with some old milsurp ammo. I actually think it looks nice, especially with that long barrel.

Mickey Rat,
You could probably sell the 91/30 stock for about what you paid for the rifle, if it is good shape.
