I have $900 bucks to buy a new scope for my heavy barrelled AR-15. I am not sure I want to spend the whole amount on a scope so I plan on either staying in the $600 dollar range or just going balls to the wall and spend the whole $900. The rifle will be used for hunting and target shooting with a possiblity of trying to get in on some competition shooting in the future. I know that when it comes to scopes you get what you pay for but I am not sure that I need to spend $900 to serve my purposes. I hear good and bad things about all brands that I listed so it seems like a coin toss to me.

look for an old weaver t-scope. the t-scopes were some of the best made. they were made from the old weaver company, not the new/current company. i got my last three t-scopes in 1982/83 about the time when weaver was going out of business. use them in long range rifle silhouette matches and small bore rifle silhouette matches. never had a problem with them and they are hard as nails. do a search on the net to see how well they are made and all of the teck data.

I voted for the Leupold.  I use a Leupold ER 6.5X20 on my heavy barrel AR and it was great.  I use Leupold exclusively.  For my short barrel AR I want an Aimpoint Comp2.  One of these days.

I ended up ordering the Leupold VX-3 6.5-20X40 AO. The new VX-3 scopes seem to be on par with the zeiss conquest line.

Good choice. Probably would have been a choice with whatever you ordered but like I said I like Leupold.  Let us know how it works out.

I also exclusively use leupold.  It's hard to beat their quality for the price.  Plus they're made here in the good 'ol US of A.
