Wolfkill, a few years ago I too completely recked a Leupold VX-3 model while riding in the back of the ranch owners truck looking for several herd of game on this 230, 000 acre farm. The driver hit a warthog hole and the truck tossed my rifle with scope hard against the steel rails on back of the truck.
Now after getting home, I told Leupold about my wife's new Leupold scope and how the finish was cracking somewhat, also asked if he could fix my new VX-3 model that I had a mishap with while hunting on a safari. He said send them in and by golly, much to my surprize, Leupold sent us not one but 2 brand new rifle scopes. It just doesn't get any better than that for warranty in my book. Hats off to Leupold!

That is the greatest thing about a leupold, once you bought one you have it for life. My younger brother bought one used that had changed hands many times before that. He dropped it while getting out of his tree stand. It was a Vari X III, an older model. He sent it in and no questions asked they replaced it with a new VX III, new model. I have 8 leupold scopes mostly vx III but a couple VX II. They are fine quality glass.

Leupold for life. I have several now. My next scope will be a Mark 4 6.5-20 X 50 for my wildcat.

I like the Bushnell Elite series, great optics and a better price.

Racefan3119, I bought a Bushnell 3200 series rifle scope a couple of months ago from my friends store. It was indeed a $100 dollar bill cheaper than the Leupold model in comparison. I found it to be just as clear as my VX-2 Leupold rifle scopes. Let's face facts! A $100 is just that, a 25% savings to the customer and warranty is said to be just a great as Leupolds. Yes, I will purchase another Bushnell rifle scope this month and don't forget about the Nikon Monarchs either, they beat Leupold in a comparison test this year.

I voted for Burris, they are outstanding as far as quality, clarity, and warrenty. I have nothing against the others but Burris is usually my choice. Right now I am testing a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20X50 on a Remington Sendero 7mm STW and it has been outstanding so far. Its very clear and is holding up under the recoil of the STW with no problems. My next door neighbor has the same type mounted on a 338 Rem Ultra Mag with no problems to report. They seem to be a great scope for the money, $99.95 at Midway. Gary Last edited on Fri Nov 9th, 2007 12:32 AM by 223WSSM

Having tried all kinds of scopes over the years, I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't pay to mount anything but a Leupold. The quality of the scope and the honesty of the warranty just seem to blow everything else away. I also like supporting an American company.
I recently purchased a Leatherwood, but when I had some problems I couldn't get their "customer service" people to even respond. That doesn't cut it for me and they are OFF the list.

I agree when it comes to mounting optics a Leupold makes the most sense. The above comparisons of a Bushnell Elite and a VX II are not fair to Leupold at all. You are comparing Bushnell's top of the line with Leupold's economy model, or mid level. Compare a VX III, VX 7, VX L, Mark 4 LR/T, to a Bushnell anything and you see the difference. You have to compare apples to apples.
I am not talking down about Bushnell scopes just talking up about Leupold scopes. A VX III provides some of the best optics you will find and customer service second to none. Well worth the extra bucks in the end. Once you bought a Leupold you own one for life.

I do like nice glass. My new CZ550 375 H&H is a new rifle I would like to try something new as far as glass. Any suggestions ? Has anyone had anything to do with Rangefinder scopes or Hawk , Mueller scopes. I'm using this rifle for big game in Canada / Northern B.C. / Yucon. Any sug. would be greatly helpfull. I have had no luck with Leapold. They don't seem to last long with me.

I have a 4x32mm Trijicon ACOG mounted on my M4 and i`ll tell you it is a fantastic scope. Small, rugged, and the drop compensater lines are built specifically for the M4 shooting the M855. Its only practical for the AR`s but for those that own them i strongly recomend an ACOG.
I would not compare Bushnell to Leupold, but i would buy a Bushnell Elite before i bought a Leupold for a hunting rifle. Long range shooting, now thats another story.

I know it is not a scope, but I have a Eotech 511 mounted on one of my AR's and just love it. I set up Clay pigeons on a shooting gallery and plink at them using the Eotech site at 75 yards. Man is that fun.

If something is wrong with your Leupold you can send it back and they will fix it or replace it at no cost to you. They stand behind their product 100%. I just bought a new Mark 4 6.5-20X50 with a mill dot. I havent mounted it yet but it looks great.

My brother and I have been trying to find something out about Leupold Mark 4 scopes for a while now, maybe you would know. What are the differences between a Mark 4 and VX III other than the target nobs. Is the body of the scope any thicker or the adjustment pieces any tougher. They have the same index matched lense system I know that but when I have Emailed Leupold I have not gotten an answer on the real differences. Is a Mark 4 just a VX III in different clothing with target knobs?
Don't get me wrong I am a die hard Leupold lover just something I have pondered thought you might know.

Well I am no Leupold expert but I will try to share what I know. All Mark 4's are 30mm main tubes while some of the smaller VX-III's are still 1" tubes. Leupold says that the VX-III has a lense index match coating where the Mark 4 has the trademarked "Index Matched Lens System". If there is any real difference in that I am not for sure. The VX line of scopes are intended more for hunting applications where the Mark 4 is more for tactical shooting. The higher end VX-III's are now 30mm main tubes and you can get them in a target scope configuration with the knobs. The Mark 4 is popular with a lot of police swat snipers. I bought this Mark 4 to go on a wildcat rifle that is capable of extreme long range so I wanted the best scope for the job. I dont have any of the VX scopes but I do have a Vari-X III and an M8 and they have been great scopes through the years.

I came to the same conclusions you did.
I have a VX III 8.5-25X50 LR that has the 30mm tube, M1 target knob, side focus paralax, etc.
I also have two VX III 4.5-14X50 with 30mm tube and side focus paralax adjustment, one with a Varment reticle and one with a Boone and Crocket.
I love all of them for long range shooting, great clarity and light gathering. But for flat out hunting deer, elk, etc my VX III 2.5-8x36 is pretty tough to beat. Points fast no adjustments needed, just point and click there dead.
Main reason I asked is that I resently purchased a Tikka Continental Hunter in 7mm Rem Mag and was pondering between a VX III or Mark 4. Gonna be a bit before I get the money together to outfit it so I have time to think it out.

Well, I'm going to show my age and say that my favorite scope is a 4x Leupold on a Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Weatherby. Second favorite is an older Pentax 4x on a M70 winchester in 3006. I do have several variables, but I don't use them for hunting. Not that I don't like them, but after using a 4x Weaver 60B for many years, I just can't get used to them for hunting. Good Shooting .

I have a straight 10X weaver on my 22 hornet I use for up close Pdogin. I also have an Leupold FXII 6X on a BAR 7mm rem mag. There are a lot of things to like about straight power scopes. They are usually lighter than variables, they have less internal things to go wrong, and they are quick to point.
