Anybody like Nikon?I got mine on my 7mm Rem Mag.Its a clear little scope.Oughta be just right on my 7 mag for whitetail hunting.Heck for the price of a Nikon versus Leupold I can`t complain. Now if it will just hold up and keep zero,I`ll be impressed..

my spotter is nikon, and my 480 wears a nikon. until last year, my binoculars were nikon.

i like nikon ok - they're priced right and durable enough. my spotter has taken some serious abuse and it still runs fine.

I have a pro staff on my 350 mag, have not shot it much but it is real clear.  Going to outfit most of my rifles with them

I have the Nikon Matte 3x9 Monarch on my Custom 308 and the scope is Crystal clear and one outstanding scope. I don't care much for the Buckmaster line after owning three of them and not being really impressed with their clarity early and later in the day.

DAKOTASIN, which scope you got on your .480?  What load you settle on?

Before I decided on the scope for my .500, I was seriously considering Nikon's Monarch 2.5-8x handgun scope.  Asked around and most advised against putting this scope on any heavy recoiling handgun.  There were no complaints about any of the visual characteristics     ...     just not on par with the sturdiness of the Burris or TC handgun scopes.  I can neither confirm or deny these with my own personal experience, but advice did come from reputable fellers, so Burris is the way I went.  Later.  >>  klallen

The best handgun scope is the Leupold 2.5x8 and i believe it will handle all the recoil a pistol can dish out. I have this scope on my 7mm-08 Encore barrel and it has never shifted zero. I have tried Burris , Simmon GM and the Weaver handgun scopes and have never had a problem with these scopes, but have never tried them on handguns with the recoil of the 500. The rings and bases on this pistol will be as important as the scope you decide to use.

Yup, BEA175  >>  I very much like the Simmons Gold Medal (.454 Casull) and Weaver Classic (.375 SupMag.).  The GM's taken a pretty good beating and has never disappointed.  Still trip across them over on eBay every once and a while.  It's rare, though.  Tend to command a pretty high final bid.  Guess their reputation preceeds them.  Great, great scope.

Ya know, in all the conversations I've had with fellers fact-finding about glass for the .500 S&W Mag, Leupold never even entered the discussion.  I know we always here them talked about when discussing rifles, but handguns     ...     I didn't get a comment on them, pro or con.   Burris and TC were the primary vote getters, with Burris being the major player when it came to handling handgun recoil.  We'll see.  I guess if this Burris 1.5-4x survives what it'll be put through over the next little while, I'll be singing the praises of Burris handgun scopes, too.  Suits me fine, anyway.  I've never been much of a Leupold guy.  >>  klallen

klallen- it is a monarch ucc fixed-2x. i spent a lot of time looking at handgun glass when i was scope shopping for it, and the nikon ranked about 4th... however, because it was used, it was the best deal at the time, which is why i got it. i am a huge fan of leupold scopes, but in handguns, i rank 'em: 1- burris, 2- leupold, 3- bushnell, 4- nikon... which is interesting to me, because in rifles, burris isn't even a top-5 for me...

the load i settled on is a hot load, pushing 355 wfngc's - but, i don't have the velocity or powder charges handy. i can get 4" groups at 100 yards, and it drops ~6" from a 50-yard zero. i've been told the load is on the warm side of too hot, but i haven't had any troubles w/ it... very little data available for the 480, especially if using cast bullets.

I have a Nikon on my 30-06, had one on my 7mm Mag and have a pair of 'Nikon Traveler'' bino's. I've always had good luck with them. Oh yeah, I have one on my .270 also. I guess you could say I'm pleased with them.

Don't have any Nikon scopes or binocs.  Simply haven't tried one yet.   Always heard great things about the Monarch line.

I have a 2x Pistol scope on my KMK678GC MKII Ruger pistol. These are often called "Slabsides" because of the barrel confiruration. I keep it sighted in for 100 yards because our shooting range only allows paper and clay birds for targets. I end each range session buy putting 15- 20 clays on the 100yd bunker and shooting them with the pistol. I have been shooting pistols at extended ranges for many years as a T/C Contender was my most used firearm for over 25 years. The 2X is very bright and I have shot a number of 2" to 2.5" groups with it at 100. It might be easier to see with some thing stronger but stronger means bigger and for me that is not acceptable. when the scope was brand new it had a problem and as I lived not far from Nikon West Coast office in Torrance CA at the time I delivered it and got it back in less than a week, completely gone through with a list of the work done. I am very happy with mine.

Nikon is some nice glass, with that being said the only problem I have seen with them is there mid priced scopes have a bit of slop in the movements IE 1/4 MOA is like 3/8 or 7/16 but other then that they are good .

I bought a Monarch 4X12 15 years ago and put it on my Rem 700 .270..It then went on my Win. Mdl. 70 7mm. Wouldn't hold zero on the mag.. Put it on my .243 to see if it would do better on a lighter recoil gun. It didn't! Bought a Tasco 2.5X10 varmint and put it on the .243 just to eliminate any other factors and the .243 shot fine. Good news, I sent it back to Nikon explaining the problem/history of the scope. They had a Tech evaluate it and told me they would fix it for no charge and ship it in two weeks! I got it back sooner than that and to my suprise opened the box and they had sent me a new scope ,no charge!!! It's now on my .243 and doing fine! Told them I bought it new, they didn't ask for a receipt or give me any problems!

They back their warranty well, but I probably wouldn't buy another. The Tasco is now on my Savage .17HMR and doing fine also. 7mm has been sporting a Leupold 3X9 variX II ever since and is not what a deer wants to see in my hands during deer season!!!

Thought my dealings with Nikon might be something to pass along to you all!!!

Good hunting, Boot
