I have two pair , The Pentax 8x42 BK4 DCF WP and the 8x30 Zeiss Conquest. Both pair are super clear and very bright. They are Roof Prisms design and very compact to be full size glasses. I purchased the Zeiss for Elk hunting because they only weight around 18 oz's where the Pentax weight around 28 to 29 oz's. I use the Crooked Horn Bino Straps but the extra weight of the Pentax take their toll on your back and shoulders when you pack them up and down the Rocky Mountains at 11,000 ft. for 8 or 9 days. I tried the Leupold GR compacts 9x28 and they work well and where super clear, but almost usless at dawn and 30 min before dark. If you Elk hunt ,buy the best Optics you can afford. Take my word for it, you will not regret it because even do it yourself Elk Hunts are very expensive and you don't want to spoil all your plans because your Optics let you down.

Fella's;
I stopped using bino's altogether. I have a Zeiss 8X monocular that's filling the bill perfectly. Extremely compact and lightweight combined with the superb Zeiss optics to boot. And, because mono's are so very underappreciated, the delivered to my door price was under $200.00. For Zeiss!
Think of it this way; your scope's a mono, your spotter's a mono, never saw a bino offered in either configuration. Why do you have to have binocular's?

I use a pair of Nikon Travel- Lites. Believe it or not I bought them at a yard sale for .50 cents. Yup, no lie. Apparently the seller did'nt know what they had. 90% of the deer I kill are less than 100 yards out so these little bino's fit the bill for me.

I mostly use a pair of Celestron 10 X 50 wide angle binocs. Had em since about 1979 or so. They're a little on the heavy side for carrying but the glass is clear and let's me see good detail.

Leupold/ Windriver Pinnacles for me.  I really like them. When ever I hit the lottery I am going to buy a pair of Leica Geovid BRF in 10X42. They are only $2095.99 in my new Cabela's catalog and weigh in at a mere 31.7 oz.

I just recently purchased a pair of the Swift 8.5x44 roofs. These are the model 828HHS and are THE most impressive >$300 binos I have ever seen. They aren't equal to the big three but are close. I would consider them 90% of the glass that my father's Swarovski 8x30 SLCs are, at a much more friendly price.

I used to use nikon binocs, but shelved them in favor of some bruntons, now. the bruntons are outstanding, if heavy.
some other good glass for the money: swift porros, bushnell legend, and even leupold's wind river. that said, to be able to look through zeiss and swaro routinely will make one hyper-critical of less-expensive glass - though it is deserved.

Nikon Monarch ATB are the one's I'm carrying. Interestingly enough it's the only Nikon glass in my gun safe! I compared them to some Leupy wind rivers which were brighter compared side to side but also about $75 more than the Nikon ATB's. Good quality, decent price and well recommended.

Just surfin' through old topics. Thought I would reply anyway. Currently using Swarovski 10x42 SLC I purchased about 5 yrs. ago for $750.00. I thought I was crazy but when I see the price has doubled, I feel better. I always take along a pair of Leupold 10x42 Wind River Cascades I bought last year. They are great for the money. About $180.00 when I got them. Also have an old pair of 10x42 Wind Rivers that I got when they first came out. Hunted with and beat the hell out of them for allot of years.Still are great. Also have a little pair of Wind River 10x25's that my son likes. I've had Steiner's,Pentax,Bushnell's,etc. . I'll take what I have now over them. dakotasin, I agree on the Brunton's. I looked though a pair of their high end 10x last year, I don't remember the model but they were awesome. Every bit as clear as my Swaro's and less than half the $. I almost bought some a few years ago and should have. They are twice the $ now. I also like them because they are made (mostly) in my home state.

Blackhat, old subject sorry. I looked through friends pair of 10x42 Ultravids while on a bighorn sheep hunt here in Calif. (like winning the lottery after 15yrs.) and compared them to my Swaro's . I liked the Leica's a little better mostly because they were a little lighter. The only thing I don't like about the Swaro's, at least the SLC's. A friend just bought a pair of 10x42 EL's and I like the weight loss. I'm not buying anymore bino's ! The freind with the Leica's also has a 20x60x85mm I believe it is and it is awesome. I've never looked through a spotting scope that you can crank all the way up and still be so clear . I'll have to wait to win the other lotto for that He has a Swarovski 20x60x80 that is awesome too. He's a sheep guide... I'll have to stick to my mediocre Wind River 15x45x60 and good old Leupold 25x50 spotters. I looked on http://www.binoculars.com and saw your 10x42 Geovids were $2095.00 there too .Reg. price $2455.00 I think it was. I thought they would beat Cabelas. The meter version was $1795.00 ????

F.R.M., The only Nikons I ever owned I think were called travelites ??? They were really clear and sharp, until I dropped them and they got whacked out. Never got them repaired. Had too many other binos. I tradded a pair of Steiner 8x30's that had individual eye focus and drove me crazy for the Nikons. That was all many years ago. Don

Leupold 10x40 IF,Bushnell 7x50 & 7x35,Nikon 8x25,Pentax 20x60 for use on a tripod.I took" How To Glass For Trophy Animals" in AZ from Az Guide Duwane Adams learning my 10x40IF Binocs weren't good with my old eyes trying to see Coues Deer 1.5 miles away. http://www.arizonabiggamehunting.com This is an excellent class to take from an expert! Stiener military issue with the range stadia and nonreflective coating. They are a pain to get focused but once you get them dialed in they are great.

I use Brunton Epoch 10.5 X 43 Binoc's. I never thought I would Buy a Pair of Binoculars for over $1000.00 until 3 eye surgery's later and 1 to go ,my eye diopoter difference was so great, not many binoculars would adjust for clear focus in both eyes.I haven't regretted a single moment of using the Bruntons.They sure work for me!

I have 4 pair of Bino's, 1 pair 30mm 8 x 30 is used when turkey hunting, they are Leupolds. The other 2 pair are used for searching much farther out during elk/mule deer season etc. One pair are Bushnell Legends in the 8 x 40 and the other pair are PENTAX in 10 x 50 (DCF SP). Both are water proof. The 4th pair are cheap but work for watching highschool football games.
