How many use the red dot scopes on your heavy kicking shotguns, what brand do you use and how well do they hold up for extended use with magnum turkey loads or buckshot loads ????

Got a cheap BSA 30mm tube 6 or 8MOA dot......it'll work forever. I've taken my off the shotgun and it's laying right here....still working.
You want it, you can have it($5 plus actual shipping)?

Red dot sights leave me
Of course, I'm looking at it from a strictly hunting standpoint - turkey hunting specifically. Here's how red dot scopes score in my book:
Magnification (good for last second turkey identification and shot placement)
Red dots = 0
Standard scopes = 1
Ability to gather light (fully multicoated lenses good for those early morning or late evening times, if your state allows full day turkey hunting)
Red dots = 0
Standard scopes =1
Aiming point always available (no electical [i.e., batteries] or chemical devices [i.e., luminous paint/tritium] to wear out in the scope's manufacturing)
Red dots = 0
Standard scopes = 1
Streamlined design reduces bulk, weight, and snags on vegetation as well as overall abuse
Red dots = 0
Standard scopes = 1
Final score: Red Dots = 0, Standard Scopes = 4
I tried to help a buddy of mine sight in a BSA Red Dot scope on a slug gun once. It went terribly. We were sighting in at 100 yards and the slugs literally danced 8-12 inches apart from a gun that previously shot 4 inch groups at the same distance with same lot of slugs- using a NEF Handi-Rifle single shot slug gun heavy barrel. Fed up, he switched it over to use on turkeys and didn't like the balance or look. Therefore how it might've functioned as a turkey sight will never be known.
Personally, for the reasons above, I never look to put a red dot scope onto any hunting gun.
I put a Leupold VX II 1-4X on my Winchester Super X2 3.5 inch 12 gauge semi-auto and it looks and shoots just fine.
I'm not totally opposed to red dot scopes, but I just feel there are more advantages to be had with a scope in the hunting fields and woods.

I personally don't like Red Dot scopes and was just wondering how others felt about them. Thanks for the offer anyway.

| I only use scopes on handguns & rifles. I load Win AA & Rem RXP hulls with some Win 540 powder that I still have when it's gone I'll switch to something else, using a bit over 35 gr with 1 1/8 oz of shot or 1 1/4oz of shot will definitely get your attention but with a good recoil pad & shotgun stocks fitted to you it's ok shooting.
