I know that the subject of optics is rife with opinions, and that general consensus is that "you get what you pay for".  For the most part I concurr...as I own Swarovski Bino's that strap on every time I go afield to bow hunt.  I just can't rationalize the expense at present, and am hoping that perhaps I have come across one of those rare occurences when a relatively unknown, yet high standard  of quality, manufacturers is trying to gain market share by offering a quality product for a fair price.

http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-win/order/prodlist.exe/PSZ/?Template=ProdDetail.htm&ProductID=33045

From what I have been able to dredge up on the M30 series, they were inroduced at the 2007 shot show in Miami.  Apparently Konus has been making spotting scopes and other rifle scopes for some time.   I dont know anything personally, I am only passing along what little I have found while "surfing".

I do know that a local gunsmith in my area is currently putting one through its paces by attempting to pound it apart with his 300 Win mag at the range. So far...he likes it very much...and had been unable to find anything that he dislikes.  AGAIN...I realize that opinions are VERY subjective.

My eventual objective is Varmint / Target shooting with my .223 Bushmaster Predator.

Any and all of your experienced wisdom is welcomed and very much appreciated...as I am honestly very new...and quite overwhelmed with all the various "best choices" that so many seem to have loyalty to.

Thanks in advance

Thanks anyway Timberghozt! I was begining to think that I didn't know the secret code or something...since no one had even replied yet.

I have been able to look through the glass of an earlier model the "Konus Pro" at a local gun shop...and I was impressed with the quality of the optics.  The owner also said he has had nothing but positive experiences when dealing with the company.

I still would like to hear if anyone has "field tested" the M30's here at all, before I drop cash.  Maybe I will have to just be the first .

Thanks again!

That is interesting you ask about this scope.  I just ordered the MPRO model in the 6.5-25x44 configuration with the mil-dot reticle from BH Photo out of NYC.  They are a big retailer in primarily camera equipment.  They list it on their website for 239.95, far less than anyone else has it for sale.  However, it is backordered.  I called the Konus US distributor in Miami and spoke to a Harry Pritchard.  While not a wealth of knowledge about his product he was a very nice guy.  He stated that BH Photo was advertising below the price agreed upon, but he guaranteed that even if BH Photo would not sell it to me at that price he would have another dealer sell it to me at that price or even less, or possible charge me no shipping.  I call that good customer service.  The people at Field and Stream were very impressed with these scopes at the 2008 SHOT show.  So, when I get mine and give it a go, I will let you know what I think.  It is going on my CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar in a 204 Ruger to complement a Hawke 6x18 44mm with a SR12 reticle that has a downloadable program that can be programmed to match the ballistics of your load with simple chronograph measurement.  Check it out at http://www.hawkeoptics.com and download the program to play with.

I agree.  I think it is in general, but there is a law of significantly diminishing returns.  I have a pair of Olympus Magellan EXP binoculars that compare to some of the most expensive aroung and I paid about 200 bucks.  I used to be a member of the OT forum at SWFA and some of those guys would not buy an optic unless it was approaching 1000 bucks.  I do not have that type of cash to put on top of everyone of my rifles.

We certanly agree on that! even if I had ;The cash. I would still seek the thrill of the new brand bargain.....I have high dollor scopes and love em but,a for real;bargain is a delight . Midway said konus discontinued the model I wanted ,so I got a Targetsports 10x42 for $52 shipped; Cdnn says it  will take 50 cal recoil .A 300 ultra with max loads will tell.   Will go to that Hawke site ;Thanks
