I want a lightweight hunting stock, wood or synthetic for my 6mm Rem.Currently it has a custom benchrest stock on it and is too heavy to be an effective carry hunting rifle.
It is on a 722 Rem action with 26 inch braked heavy  varmint barrel.
Any ideas gents? Its a shame to let this rifle sit as much a sI do.Its a splendid deer and yote killer with 85 grain Sierra HPGK`S.
I want to use it as a 300 yard whitetail carry rifle.
Look forward to your input and thoughts?

Gene you could go really radical like this but skeletonize the butt stock too. It's only a 6mm so the recoil shouldn't be too hard on stocks. This is a Kifaru Rambling Rifle. Ultralite, ultralite. RD

the 722 and 700 are awfully similiar, but they are not a direct swap. if you are willing to make some concessions, i'm pretty sure you could make the 700 stock fit.

don't spend a lot of money on it until you can tell what needs to be different. iirc you'll have some floorplate, bolt handle, and safety clearances to deal with.

thats ugly as hell RD..don`t think I could handle that:confused:
I hear ya Dakota, I can fix the minor inletting problems ,I`m just unsure what I want in my stock.Wood sounds nice,I like would better than synthetic but I want to turn my 6mm into a solid all weather hunter.

But TG, Your MA Duece wasn't exactly filled with flowing lines and fine wood either. These are designed to be sheep rifles etc. and right at 4 pounds scoped. They also have switch barrel capability. Generation 1 rifles were all .308 case based .260 through .358 I think. I read somewhere that they were working on a GenII that will be 300WSM based. I don't think I'd want to shoot a .300WSM in a 4 pound rifle. At least not without a scope that is very generous in eye relief.  RD

I just looked it up and Richards Microfit Stocks makes Stocks for that action! down side will typically take 8 to 12 wks to get the stock, but they do make some nice stocks

tried to post earlier on this ....synthetic will be harder to find( sad that as i love synthetic)this clunker mite be too heavy but the wide forearm will allow a pretty fat barrel
http://www.rifle-stocks.com/marksman.htm

btw ? i like their old style #102 stock myself ,numrich has a 80-90% semi inletted stock for $26.20 wow thaz cheap add a set of pillars and sum bedding but most the work IMO will be gouging out the barrel channel,i believe the main diff between the 700 and 722( also the 721 ) is blind box mag( kinda like the adl vs bdl) as well as the safety and the stronger bolt ,here's a cool lil link to remington( they have alot of great links and info there btw ! )http://www.remington.com/library/history/firearm_models/centerfire/model_722.asp
let us know how it turns out ! and especially if u find other differences between the 700 and the 722.

I was going to mention Richards if someone else hadn't. I have done two of them and just love them. They come 99% inleted and rough shaped. You can do or have done to them whatever you like. If it is going to be  a walking gun, get a laminated stock and whittle it down to what you want, that way it is strong enough to take a beating and can be as light as you want.
