I have been using Mag Lites for years, I have the little pen light ones, the C Cell ones, and several D Cell ones (2 to 4 cells)

Now there is the Surefire Flash light out there, they are suppose to be superior to the Mag Lites, in many ways. I use a 3 D cell Mag Lite for my night time close quarter practice. I have been doing what is the FBI stance, the flash light is in my left hand out to my side and my pistol is my right hand in front of me. So if the perp shoots at the light it is in my hand to my side instead of in front of my body.

So are the Surefire better or are they just another tech toy? Any other decent flashlights out there?

Thanks,

Jerry

In the kind of practice your speaking of the Sure-Fire would actually become another weapon of sorts.....blinding!  These little lights are amazingly bright, and they weigh next to nothing.

I've always used Streamlights, both personally and professionally. We buy our guys Streamlight SL-20 XP/LED models, decent run time, and the LED option alows extended battery life for many uses. I personally use the old SL-20X aluminum skull basher model, plenty of light, not too much weight, and still a decent impact weapon, if needed (can't be too careful!).

Check out  these guys, I've bought from them for several years and have been satisfied with service.

Go to Sam's club and go down the little outdoor sports aisle where they have stuff like coolers, bike, and camping gear. The have a pack of flashlights there that are top notch for only $28. The pack has two 150 lumen LED flashlights that run off of 3 AAA batteries. They have an 6"-7" aluminum body and have a pressure switch on the end cap. They also have o-rings on them that make them water resistant. I also have another set of the same flashlight that are 80 lumen but Sam's no longer carries them. These flashlights are soo bright that if you have your eyes closed and flash the light on it still hurts your eyes.

Here are pics of the flashlights. The 80 lumen flashlight is always on the left and says 3 watt on it and the 150 lumen is on the right. It has a little fatter bezel and I believe it is a 5 watt L.E.D. The gun is a Beretta Tomcat .32 acp.

I went into my pitch black bathroom to give you an idea of how bright the 150 lumen is. This flashlight also does not have fresh batteries it in.

These are pics of me in the mirror flashing the light back in my face. ( I know I am a dork.. LOL)

The surefires are great lights. Much smaller, lighter and way way bright. I have one of mine with the upgrade bulb and it eats those fairly expensive batteries. I don't carry my maglights around any more. By the way, don't stick that surefire in your pocket where a bend over or a sit down could activate the pressure switch on the end...it will burn the hell outa your leg...:shameon:

Those surefires get real hot very fast. Thats why I like my LED flashlight, no burns and it uses AAA's.

This is what I was advised to buy, it seems to be the standard for the police.

Most likley I will buy the one mentioned from Sam's Club. Around here it has to be bright and handy, but doesn't have to do that much more.

A friend of mine told me about this place:

http://www.lighthound.com/Flashlights_c_13.html

You can even build your own from the parts they sell.
