I discovered today that when I mount a scope on a Mini 14, that to disasemble the Mini 14 for a complete cleaning, you have to take the scope off.

The rings are the ones that Ruger provided (I think) is there a better mounting system that allows me to take the scope on and off?

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry,
I think My "Ruger" rings loosen with one screw on each side, then scope , rings and all can come off. They have a locating lug on the bottom of the rings and a matching slot in the receiver. I would think they would re-mount in nearly the same place.

My rings are at work. I took them in for someone to try and haven't brought them back home. I will check tomorrow and get back to you.

I took them off because I mounted a see thru mount. It makes the scope sit higher, but for plinking and rapid shooting I like using my open sights.

I did the same on my mini 30.

Have a good one, Guy

Jerry,
I also tried one of this type. It would gradually move. I tightened it as tight as i could and could not keep it from moving.

I'll see if I can up load a pic of my Mini with an EER on a scount mount. Worked out pretty nice (i've had a lot of fun with it).

My problem at the moment is I am using the rings that came with the rifle and my Nikon scope doesn't work for extended eye relief, but I do have a good handgun scope somewhere around that isn't being used at the moment.

I like the three point mount, but TnTom, how is your scope mounted?

the "scount mount" replaces the upper hand guard and the rings fit to it.

The first picture I was using a different set of rings and it was a little to tall. I think i bought it (mount) from brownells.

The only place I could find these were at Natchez, for $65.00 it is a deal.

Thanks,

Jerry
