VX 3 OR MONARCH! will be buying one soon. bothered buy price one is selling for 700.00 roughly , other 500.00.probably will end answering this one myself but would like to hear from you guys . both have factory lifetime guarantees. to my eyes some nikons looked brighter  than other scopes.never  had a scope with this range of power. have owned both brands but not the higher end ones. will be putting scope on a 6br recoil is minimum.will be used as a hunting rifle and target shooting combo.adjustments will be used  often . everybody gets a lemon every now and then  ,real question i guess is do you really have to pay to play

skoalman, I don't own one of these but saw one at the local range. There were about 6 of us comparing it to a leupold on another rifle. The Vortex was clearly (pun intended) the winner. Brighter and sharper. Cheaper too. RD

I* have two Nikon's, Buck Master's, and like them. On the 4 1/2-14 I'd like to have turret caps that turned rather than having to remove the caps to adjust. But it works very well; $300. I have a 3-9 on my 243 and it's been fine, don't recall what I paid for it. Both scopes are guarenteed for life even if they change hands. I think Leupold does the same but doesn't say it. I wouldn't give much advantage to either other than I know where to go to get a Leupold fix if I had one. Never owned one but the quality can't be denighed. I'm an old Redfield fan!

I know modern scopes are sophisticated pieces of equipment and all, but dosen't it P.Y.O having to pay so much scratch for essentially a tube and a couple pieces of glass?
I just cant see putting a $700 scope on a $500 rifle. I guess if I had a super duper 1,000 yard gun I would understand it better. All but one of my rifles are deer or elk rifles and either have either Bushnell, Leupold,or Burris and I dont think I paid over $200 bucks for any one of them. Pardon my Rant.

Of the three optics you mentioned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of them!  I've owned each and every one of them, and feel I got my moneies worth.  Engineering a tube and a couple of pieces of glass....well, there is probably more to it then that, but I get your meaning.  New lighter weight materials, better/clearer glass that doesn't fog.....

Back to the topic:

I personally enjoy looking through Nikon glass.  The upper end Monarch stuff is great, but expensive!  Have no experience with the Vortex brand....but I'll give them a look via the link above when I get the chance.

Just received a Nikon Monarch African Dangereous Game scope, 1-4X 20mm for my new AR.
Wanted a true 1X for quick CQB demand with both eyes open. This scope fulfills that need. The magnification to 4X is for medium range targets, 200-300 m.
The glass is great, very clear, crisp resolution with no noticeable distortion.
I would rate the Nikon tops at this point---will give a range report soon. This scope was designed for close shooting in the African bush

Also have a Bushnell Elite M4200 2.5-10X 42mm on my RRA Ar15 Varmint with 20" Wilson Bbl.  It is outstanding, but has not had any tough field treatment yet.

Over the years I have used Leupold and Burris with good results.
Some are reporting that quality and service have slipped with them.

One of my all time favorites is my Dad's Unertl 4X Hawk on his original Win M70  SN 63XX.  Not modern but has served well for over 70 years!
It stays in the family!!!
