Now to the question that first brought me here...
I want to load 69 gr BTHP, Varget powder for 16" 1 in 9 barrel AR for tactical matches, 200 yds max
Have had good experience with Sierra's but they are very hard to find in 1000 lots.
My question: Given a choice between Hornady, Nosler or Privi Partizan what are the pros and cons? The American made have become very hard to find. What experience have you had with the Serb bullets?
Thanks in advance.

Nosler .224 69 gr hpbt for me shot as well as the Sierra MK's and have stayed with them now. Shot both in 1:7 WOA and Colt uppers and have to say the Nosler are cheaper and shoot equally well.
I was shooting IMR 4895 in my AR's but in my .220 Rocket (blown out Swift) I am shooting the same bullets with Varget and getting excellent results at 200 yards.
I have not had the warm fuzzy feeling with Hornady (maybe).
I's say try the Noslers I really have found them moving to the top of my list. Measurable improvment in group size. Avg'ing .3 - .5 10 shot groups at 200.

Nosler bullets are extremely accurate. In some cases they may even be more accurate than the more expensive Sierra Matchking, but SMKs have the reputation that's hard to ignore.
Hornady bullets are what I would think of as a value match bullet. Very accurate and reasonably priced, but possibly not as good as the others at the highest echelons of target shooting.
I shot many boxed of Prvi match 308 before I started handloading, it was good stuff. Sub MOA groups easily. I did not know they sell their bullets separately, however.

Thank you.
Have you chronoed that Varget load?
If I remember correctly 24 gr is the Hodgon max load and I believe the bullet is sitting on the powder with that OAL length. Are you seeing any pressure signs?

Here it is straight from Hodgdons site;
.223 Rem They don't list a rifle, or primer/brass Etc.
69 GR. SIE HPBT
Hodgdon
Varget
.224"
2.235"
24.0
2784
39,200 CUP
26.0C
3010
50,200 CUP
25.3 Gr Varget is also my "pet load" for Service rifle, 69 Gr. Sierra HBTM, Win brass, CCI Small rifle primer, 2.260"
I'm on the 7th loading, and the primer pockets are starting to feel loose, so I'm getting new brass this winter.
I did Chrono this, but I don't have the data handy.
This is out of my RRA NM upper, .223 Chamber(not Wylde).

Don't get hung up on 69 grain bullets, epecially if you're not going to shoot any further than 200 yards.
Check out some 55 grain bullets,I've found they shoot quite well in a 9" twist barrel. There are many to choose from and a lot cheaper. You'll thank me.

I agree. If your shooting like 600yd matches its one thing but under 600 unless its just blowing up a storm 62gr,60gr, 55gr out to 400-500 do well. A lot cheaper and easy to find.

Try some Hornady 75 grain HPBT's...They shoot second best in my Armalite 1-9...next to the Sierra 69gr Mk's

I have noticed that Hornady V-max 55gr have been very consistant for me. Very few in the box have weighed more then 55gr and my COL when seating has been more consistant then any other bullet I have used.

Different guns like different loads. Even gun that look identical in the same cal. my like different bullets or different powders. If your going to shoot matches try several different bullets and powders and find what your gun likes best. In compation you need the absolute best accuracy you can ring out of your rifle.

Thank you all. Ordinarily I would not try more than 200 yds - that said, today we had 100, 200, and 300 yds at a 3 gun.
Should have brought the .308! Guess I better get a box magazine mod for that!
Any suggestions on which one to use on a REM 700 LTR?
