I read your posts on bumping the shoulder back just to the point of the stripped bolt falling into place. My problem is, stripped bolt or not, how do you start getting there? I mean, how do you go about just getting close to that point? By marking the shoulder with a magic marker and slowly working the die in?

I think Paul B in post 7 does a good job explaining his process.
I use a Stoney Point (now Hornady) headspace gauge and makes life so easy.
all you need is a good caliper and the guage, run your die down to contact shell holder when ram is all the way up back off 1/2turn
take a measurment of the fired case and right it down, lube case I use imperial die wax, and resize whats your measurment?
Its ok if the case length increases a couple of thou because your tucking in the web area and pushing the shoulder up, just turn your die in or down about a 1/8th of a turn and repeat, you will know when your getting close because you'll feel a change in the resizing stroke.
what were after is resizing the web area AND bumping the shoulder so continue the measure.resize process untill you get .001-.002 bump for a bolt action and you'll need .003-.004 for a semi auto.
Below is the link to the guage that I use easy instructions and I use it on every gun I own as well as helping a few friends.
