Had one a while back, a custom job on a M-700 Rem action with 28" Hart barrel. It shot pretty well but not great. Was happy to get rid of it.

i would say if u get a competent person to build u a rifle for this caliber you will have an extremely useful and potent round. accuracy should not be a problem

My boss has one, he had it built as a "mountain" gun. Very light synth. stock, and PENCIL thin barrel to keep the weight to a min.

I'm not sure what action it's on.

He took a nice Black Bear in Canada with it, but he said it has a pretty mean kick.

I have 2, 7STW rifles; One is a Rem 700 Sendero, the other a Winchester model 70. Accuracy is not a problem in either one. The Rem is the more accurate of the 2, with consistent 1/2-3/4 inch groups for 3 shots. I load the 140BT with RL 22 or IMR7828. Either will sing a deadly song. With the heavier bullets, which my Win prefers (160gr), I like RL-25. This round will test the metal of any good bullet. Fast and furious to say the least. Good Luck.

Thanks deer dog.

I am debating between this caliber or a 30 caliber (300 Win mag or 300 ultra mag)

You are welcome. The 300 Win Mag is tough to beat, in my opinion. I actually prefer it to the 7 STW.

i would stay on the .30 side if due to the fact if you hunt anything too large at least you can bump up to 220gr loadings

Im going to say go with the 30 cal.If you want the biggest, fastest,an nastiest 30 cal do what I did.Go with the 30-378 weatherby mag.Had one built on a weatherby action,30" 1.25" straight taper hart barrel,an a A5 mccmillan stock.Wish I had away to post my 300 yard group target on here. One of the guys I work with has a 7mm stw he likes it but it will not shoot with a factory weatherby an we both reload for them.So I guees what im saying is if you want a 7mm go the stw route but if your going 30 go weatherby.

FWIW There's a guy at work who owned a Rem. 700 in 7mm STW. He claims that he stretched the action (factory ammo) to the point of having headspace issues with the gun. Rem did warranty it with a new action. But he heard others have had the same problem so after the repair he sold it. I have no personal experience with the round but found his story interesting...... I had a .30 STW built, on a 700 action. It shoots very well, velocities are hand and hand with the .300 Weatherby, but I don't have to buy expensive brass or fool with the venturi shoulder. Brass is made by a single pass from 7STW or 8mm remington mag. Accuracy is so good that I'm reluctant to say, as most people wouldn't believe it.
