This one of my calling rifles built on a LH 700 action with Select Match Shilen #4  SS barrel and MPI glass stock chambered to the  22-250 Ack Imp. this rifle shoots the 55 gr Nosler BT with 37.5 gr of IMR4064 into  1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I have had different scopes on this rifle but now use the B&L 4200 Elite 3.5x10 . The 22-250 Ack is one of my favorite long range calling rifles. Does any one on the forum have any experence with 22-250 Ack?

Bea175,

Have a couple 22-250 Rems, one 22-250 AI and have build several recently for customers.  All have been rechamber jobs on Rem 700 varminters for customers.

Most needed the threads removed and refitted for quality match grade results.  Even with the shorter barrel by 3/4" the AI chamber with the tight match grade throat topped standard 22-250 velocity by at least 150 fps and often by 200 fps.

Groups generally run in the 1/2 moa range with virgin brass and play with the 1/4 moa size with taylored fireformed loads.

My personal 22-250 AI is a Ruger Varminter that I simply rechambered. It is a 1/3 moa rifle with the 50 gr Ballistic Silvertip loaded to 4050 fps in the 25.5" Ruger factory pipe.

This is a great round offering slightly more performance then the Swift with much longer case life and generally better accuracy on average.

Personally I like the 22-6mm AI better as a big 22 caliber round as it will produce 4250 fps with the 55 gr Ballistic Tip in a 26" barrel.  Barrel life is a bit shorter but for long barrel life I would go with a 223 Rem or its AI brother.  For shear performance, the 22-6mmAI is what I go for.

For an all around varminter though, the 22-250 AI is very hard to beat in a quality rifle.

Good Shooting

Kirby Allen(50)

This is the average groups size i get from the above 22-250 Ack. I belive the rifle would do better if i had more than a ten power hunting scope on it, i guess what i am trying to say is the rifle shoots better than i can shoot it. I'm not a benchrest shooter but a hunter who like accurate rifles.

I ran a 22-250 Ai for awhile and achived some velocity increase of 200 fps with 40 grainers. The improvements bled off as the projectile weight increased.

It is a good varmiting caliber.
